R3E news and rumors

So we have a general discount thread (though it's often missed), but as far as I know, there isn't a general news thread to post various small-ish pieces of information that have come up, so I thought it might be a good idea to start one?

So information about the upcoming December patch are starting to appear, and we now have a confirmation that three Porsche cars will indeed be coming with it, with first one being...

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 2017

The latest incarnation of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is based on the seventh generation of this sports car icon, and it lives up to its calling: uncompromising performance on the race track.
The four-liter six-cylinder boxer unit delivers up to 485 hp.
The drive force is transmitted to the rear axle by six-speed sequential dog-type transmission.
The fate of the 911 GT3 Cup is played out in the Porsche one-make championships, where the only thing that counts is the performance of the individual driver.
While carrying "GT3" in its name, the car has quite different driving characteristics compared to its bigger brother, the GT3 R.
The lack of ABS & Traction control makes it quite a challenge to drive and will put your skills on track to a test.
A special feature of this car are the purple LED lights on the data display, that will warn you about traction loss & locking brakes.

The other two cars should be announced in the coming days according to S3, but it's fairly obvious one of them will be the GT3 R, aka the "proper" GT3 ;)

Group C and now potentially 90's era F1. Nice to see I picked the right sim:cool:. Too early to be making requests? :geek: Won't mention the obvious ones.

I'm getting new messages appear on screen that I've not seen before, of course whether they are new or not is another kettle of fish.
I have a rumour, my mate, grunts and groans like a pair of mating Badger, whilst driving an Audi RS around Bathurst and he must be on Viagra, as he's been at it a straight two and a half hours and there is no sign of slowing down iminent.

They added a new message box to the left side of the screen. Even without the new WebHUD, it displays various messages we didn't get before the patch. One thing I'm sure has also changed is the banner displayed when you're low on fuel... I honestly can't remember that appearing before the patch if you have overlays turned off. Did in last night's club races though, which was extremely distracting.

Had a go, and I can safely say that I hate that car. I have nothing in particular against electric cars per se... apparently they're the future. But it just wasn't any fun at all for me. Without the roaring engine there was no sense of speed or power, just a horrible whining sound. No way to gauge speed either, without looking at the speedo. No gears. I only made it halfway around Nords before binning it.

I can honestly say that if/when this car makes it into the store, it'll join the tiny number of cars (two so far) that I wont buy.

The VW is not so much a car to purchase to expand your virtual garage, this is an exercise of trying to beat the electric record at the Nords. VW entrusting S3 to mirror this attempt in the virtual world should be seen as a step forwards in Sim/real world collaboration. You never know where this could lead, maybe handing over the data sheets to our @Alex Hodgkinson for a certain Bugatti or something else from, VW, Audi, Lamborghini, Seat, Skoda etc etc
Making friends in the industry is the single most important thing for a race Sim, those data sheets must be priceless to the devs, bring it on I say, can't stand the whiney things myself, reminds me far to much of being married again but opening doors to a few more vehicles from the VW back catalogue, makes having a sewing machine in the Sim that much more bearable and it's not as though you have to drive, buy or even look at it, yet it may open a barn door load of goodies for the future, small price to pay I say. Either way, it's got four wheels and a steering wheel, I'll give it a good ragging just the same.

*Well, man of my word, have given said VW a half decent ragging and find it a delight, something completely different, requires a different approach but one I found quite exhilarating, this thing sticks like nothing else. Far more fun than anticipated and that sound......that sound was Motorhead, Overkill banging through the cans, best thing about leccy cars is the soundtrack you can supply for the journey. For a first draught of a one off car, can only give a big thumbs up, be interesting with DRS and an alignment to the real data after it has had its record attempt, look forward to the final version. Took til about the fourth lap before I managed some four wheel drifting, once you dare to find that limit, you're just at the beginning of going fast in this car, all about momentum, lots and lots of momentum.

You are probably right about the cockpit sound - I havent tried the car.
But the outside sound is yes different but not that bad.
Hehe at least not the first 5 minutes.
Considering how boring the car is to drive then check this german(!) test drive out.
Note: Skip the menu settings start of the video where the guy does really show how much fun some germans are good for when they really try.
EDIT: Sorry you need to understand german language to appreciate all guys jokes;)

I do appreciate the significance of the collaboration, and hope they can secure some other (non-electric) deals in the future. That said, it doesn't change the fact that I found the car boring and lifeless to drive. I'm not a believer in buying things I don't want simply to "support" developers, so this car won't be found in my garage when it hits the store.
