Skin Body.DDS DXT1, DXT3, DXT5

Hello,

I would like to understand what difference is between DXT1, DXT3 and DXT5 when you save the body of a skin?

I ask this why sometimes I see Skins in DXT1 and others in DXT3 and I don't understand exactly what it changes and why do you save in DXT1 or DXT3?

Someone skilled in this could explain all this?

Dxt1 is plain texture with NO transparent alpha layer...except dxt1a which adds transparent layer.

Dxt3/5 have got both alpha layer, double texture size of dxt1.

Compression quality : better dxt5 > dxt3 > dxt1 worse

Some skins need alpha layers (porsche rs skin) whereas others don't.

If you have a doubt then make all your skins in dxt5 as it will (quite) always work with lower compression so less artifacts/noise.

Your best bet is to always save the skin as the same type as developer intended. This applies to mipmaps as well. When I made new HD textures for Monza I found out that if you dont save at the same mipmap setting as original the game will crash.
