Cars The Need For Speed

I'd argue it shouldn't as the external audio sounds nothing like a stock 1995 Dodge Viper's exhaust note. Better to look at this mod like a 3rd party exhaust modification, for the time being.

Perhaps the modder listened to a Viper with modified exhaust.

The Viper RT10 engine has a low end growl which the default sound captures. This mod is much higher in pitch.

Like I said, more like a 3rd party exhaust mod

I'm in the same boat, though my mom's isn't stock by any means any more. That one just sounds tinny at the low end and not right. When wound up it doesn't sound as bad, but the low end is totally missing presence. I thought the modified one that A3DR includes with the car actually captures it better.

For reference, my mom's 94 has the cats removed and the stock mufflers replaced with a pair about a third the size, so yeah...it's loud.

As a side note to this, forgive my ignorance, but are transmission sounds separate from the engine sounds or are they baked in? I was listening to some Vortex V10 clips to see what it sounded like for comparison, but it has so much gear whine from the transmission on interior shots that it's hard to make out just the engine sounds. If I were to buy the Vortex and strip the audio (if that's even possible), can I also remove the whine from the interior engine track?

Yes you can do that it`s quite simple actually. After you swap the sound (using the content manager) you edit the GUID file, find the transmission sound lines and just for example add some letter or symbol to the lines that you want to turn off.

Not sure how it works but it is all in one file that takes its commands from the GUIDs. Ingame you can separately tweak the engine and transmission volume so I guess it's two separate sounds.

Exactly. It´s two different events in fmod, and both ways you mentioned should to the trick.
Though the Vortex sound may a bit too rough and agreesive for the road car :D

Btw, can we look forward to the 993 now or is there anything in between? @A3DR

Oh yes!! we might need to come up with some custom branding for them, work, work, work :D
lol Yeah cool mate I'm open to ideas. Those Firechiefs do look excellent though!
Maybe when I eventually release the track, different texture themes, who knows :)

That's usually how my runs end up on all of Phoenix77 tracks :roflmao::roflmao:
Well you haven't tried the much narrower roads yet... It seems like warp speed..
Good Luck when you do!!! :D

Sure next car from me will be that, hope I can still count with your sounds for it, last I've heard it was already quality stuff :)
There are other projects that have priority though, so might take some time before I start on the 993. Most likely we'll get to enjoy the C4 in the meantime.

I will gladly take an aftermarket exhaust sound over the monotone hum of the stock. Vipers have never been known for their awesome sound, and with good reason. It has a truck motor that didn't even sound good when it was in a truck.

Actually, it wasn't a truck motor at all.

http://www.hotrod.com/articles/how-the-viper-engine-got-its-horsepower/

The Viper engine has been disparagingly called a “truck” motor, due to the V10 configuration which seems at first glance to be similar to that of the Dodge truck line, and the initial prototype being an iron block didn’t help its reputation, but Viper engineers hate to hear that. “It’s an aluminum block based loosely off the small-block Chrysler V8,” says Winkles. “It’s not the truck engine. If you went through it, we shared, like, one part. A bolt or something. It was much more like the A-engine.” Think fuel-injected and fancied up 340.

Suspension and brake upgrades done with final setup and semislicks it hits below 8:10! Will upload tonight.

Cool, whatever, doesn't change the fact that they sound like crap; especially at idle and anything less than WOT.
It's certainly an acquired taste. It's pretty unique at least. Stock the cars are actually pretty quiet and you don't really get as much low end punch. My dad had a totally stock 03 for a while that was dang near whisper quiet at idle and cruising. When you wound it up it had some growl, but was nowhere near what my regular catback sounded like on my 04. A lot of the aftermarket systems make them sound too raspy to my ears. I like the system on my car because it's more of a growl/roar and less of a wail. Think powerful American big block vs European exotic.

That said I still like getting out my 5.7 Hemi swapped 67 Dart and hearing a V8 again. The Viper is fun to daily drive, but sometimes I just want to hear the classic American soundtrack of a V8.

Man you`re posting porn stories out there! :D:D

Apropos since snakes are typically quiet until they get upset and start hissing! :roflmao:

I'll see if I have any videos of the two. I know I have some dyno runs I did on both of them. Not exactly what you'd hear going down the road, but gives an idea. I have a before and after on my Viper too. When I first bought it, it only had the catback setup. I've since put on long tube headers (the factory is basically shorty headers, all tubular manifold, not cast) and had to get rid of the factory cats since they don't fit. I could squeeze in a set of high flows, but didn't have to for my state, so I haven't. I actually preferred the volume with the cats since I drive it so much. With no cats it's just a bit more drone-y on the highway. The factory cats muffled just enough to take the edge off for longer drives.

Coming to an AC installation near you very soon. When I was done with the S1 and repacking the data I thought why not do the whole deal and make it an integrated S1 version so put it together and shared it with @A3DR who will release it with the next update. So on top of the 400 test kilometers I put an additional ~88km on the S1.

512TR S1 with the following mods/adjustments:

Sports springs and dampers - track package style nothing too stiff but reworked all parameters
Stiffer ARB front and rear
Widened track front and rear ~6/8mm
Lower ride height ~20mm
Performance brakes front and rear
Optimized setup included
0-60 in 4.4s
Top speed 324.7km/h

In short a very sharp and pinpoint accurate version of the 512 while retaining ride quality and the characteristic mid engine handling. No alteration of engine, transmission or other power related factors.

Tested to death on Tsukuba, Suzuka and the Nordschleife (sub 8 minute time possible ;))...

...cool stuff...
Really pleased you've got it integrated with the existing 512, that's a nice touch.
Could I make a cheeky request that the same tyre options are still available on the S1 version? So with the ride height / sharper handling but still have the 90s tyre option available? I'm just a sucker for crap tyres :D

No worries if not, I know I could swap them in with Content Manager :)
