Will VW enter Formula 1?

VW has repeatedly been linked with taking one of its brands into Formula 1, but it currently focuses on the World Endurance Championship, World Rally Championship and GT racing.

"Formula 1 is not on our agenda right now," said Wolfgang Durheimer.

Wolfgang Durheimer also said: "The situation is not predictable enough to make the kind of investment required. On the regulations front there are a lot of rumours around the engine side and the supporting technology side. Before you commit the kind of money needed you must see five years of rules stability – there can’t be the possibility of rules changes, of more or less engine cylinders coming in, or the hybrid system changing away from technology you are developing on road cars."

But with the new owner of F1, Liberty Media Volkswagen may yet be enticed to enter.

  • Do you think VW will enter the Sport?
  • Which VW brand would you like to see in F1?

Bugatti would be the only VW owned brand together with Porsche and Lamborghini (missing from the poll) that would fit into F1 in my opinion.

Bentley is a brand for the upperclass businessman. Seat, VW and Skoda are ordinary road cars for us mortals ;D
