I will keep this page updated. Click the buttons below.
DO NOT DRAG and DROP into Content Manager!
LA Canyons is not setup for this! - Always read the included Install Guides.

Where do I get the VIP extras?

The optional VIP extras are available via my online store.

What are the VIP extras?
The VIP extras consist of additional features and benefits. They were originally intended as a ‘thank you’ to those who value and support my work. They are completely optional and are not necessary to play the regular version.

I get an error, TRACK NOT FOUND, why is this?
This usually occurs when you haven't properly installed / enabled the Main Track before installing the VIP Extras. Make sure LA Canyons 1.2 - Main is installed / enabled... before installing / enabling any VIP Extras.

NOTE: You need Full Content Manager to have access to the 'Content / Mods' section of CM to enable. If you don't want to get Full Content Manager... Download the JSGME mod enabler, found here on RD.

I’d like to drive with my friends, is multiplayer possible?
Yes, LA Canyons was designed with multiplayer at its core.
There are currently several servers available, just search ‘canyons’ in the AC server browser.

In Trackday mode, the traffic stops after a while, how to fix?
You're likely running Too Many AI opponents, you only need around 5 - 10 AI selected, more than this and AI Flood (part of CSP) can get buggy. Also turn off Fuel Consumption, this helps the AI Cars not run out of fuel. If you're trying to use questionable quality AI cars?... Turning off damage may help.

If I have the VIP extras, can I drive with those who only have the regular version?
Yes. The VIP extras are compatible for driving with those who have the main version.

Is it possible to have two-way traffic?
Yes. Two-way traffic is now included with the optional VIP Traffic Pack. (Silver) or included with the Extra Roads in VIP Platinum.

Is it possible to have two-way traffic online?
Yes it is now possible, but I don't know the specifics. And if I did it's beyond my scope to detail the process here. Use Google.

How do I remove Pit Crew (Lollipop guys)?
I've included a completely optional 'Hide Pit Crew' mod in with the Main version of LA Canyons 1.2. Refer to the included 'Install Guide' on how to install.

I've seen in videos people have sharp centrelines, mine are blurry, how comes?
You need Anisotropic Filtering to x16, for sharper centrelines.
As AC's Anisotropic Filtering is less efficient. Turn off AF in Assetto, and overide in your GPU's control panel, for more fps.

I have experienced some shaking in certain areas, why is this?
This is due to the huge scale of this mod which, with the VIP extras, totals about 900km². Assetto Corsa was not designed for maps/areas this size, so there are limitations within the game engine. When you start moving, and actually driving, this shaking will gradually reduce.
Double precision physics in Content Manager removes this shaking.

I felt some shaking was a small price to pay to be able to drive these amazing roads. I have indicated layouts affected with yellow warning diamonds (UI Layout Previews). If you have problems, other routes are available.

I had to re-install my PC, how do I re-download the Extras?
After purchase you'll receive a confirmation email, this sometimes goes to Spam Folders... As advised before download, and at the point of download. Check in your spam folder or search your emails for Sellfy to find this email (which contains link to get to your download page again).

Is LA Canyons available for PS5 / Xbox (other consoles)?
No, mods are not available for the console version of Assetto Corsa, and likely never will be.
Traffic Guide

If using Content Manager / TRACKDAY mode / AI Flood

Select Trackday mode.
Select a Traffic layout.

AI Strength. Use around 90%. Never use less than 80% AI Strength, things will get buggy.

AI Aggression. Use a moderate amount of aggression. A higher setting means the AI cars wont flinch as much when cars get close.

Select a number of AI opponents to use as traffic (To start only use 5 -10 AI or things can get buggy). If you want to increase this later, that's up to you.

Turn off Fuel Consumption. Otherwise the traffic will run out of fuel and keep re-spawning out of fuel causing obstructions.

Turn off Damage. May help car mods with poorly setup suspensions, as at start of a session Assetto Corsa 'drops' the cars on to the road.

If random glitches happen, stick to using default Kunos cars to troubleshoot, add mod cars one at a time...

If Content Manager / AI Flood still cause you issues, revert to RACE mode. You'll need to run more AI opponents but it will use default Kunos AI routines. Alternatively try different versions of CSP as some versions are buggy. Consult Content Manager / CSP documentation if you find any!
If using Stock Assetto Corsa / RACE mode
Select Race mode. (Quick Race in stock AC)
Select a Traffic layout.

AI Strength. Use around 90%

AI Aggression. Use a moderate amount of aggression. A higher setting means the AI cars wont flinch as much.

Select a number of AI opponents to use as traffic (You'll need to run 20+ AI to see light traffic)

LA Canyons main loop is 26 miles (Per lane, 1 lane in each direction is effectively a 52 mile long, 4m wide road)

For example 52 AI will equal one car per mile in either direction. If you have a slow computer don't attempt to run an excessive amount of AI for your machine. To give your CPU an easier time I'd recommend Trackday mode, and make sure you read the 'General Tip' below.
General Tip: If you get poor performance in Assetto Corsa, make sure you're using mod cars that all have proper LODs (something like... *LOD_B.kn5, *LOD_C.kn5, *LOD_D.kn5)

The top quality car mods here on Race Department will have these LODs. Random mod cars / ripped cars / poor quality mods might not.
Drive Tastefully! Always respect other drivers (Including the AI)

Never do that no hesi :poop: on real roads. Hesitate! Save it for the track.

This is a special, ultra rare, limited to 500 members, version of LA Canyons.

Setup for Pure/Sol instead of Stock Assetto Corsa, this will end up being LA Canyons 2.0. I can so far foresee 3 updates before it makes the full 2.0 designation. The first version of Carbon will be compatible online with 1.2 (Except Normal/Reverse where I've staggered the start grid)... Following versions will likely not be compatible due to doing... things differently.

Video with ALL objects off (except roadside bushes) and using Pure and the 'Default' Kunos filter.

Sadly, due to a serious lack of respect shown to my work (From a few muppets)... I'll be keeping this private. ALL members I invite, will have a unique version to them, with indentifying codes deep in the files. Any unathorised upload, and I'll know who, and they lose their place in the club! Sad that I have to do this, but so be it, needs must!

IF anyone sees any unathorised leaks, ports into other games, rips or asset thefts of my (and Bens work), call it out, 'politely' let them know how these low-life practices damage the modding community and ultimately the Sim Driving Community!

I would have loved to have made this public, who knows maybe by the time it makes 2.0 I will... I'll see if people can learn to behave, and respect others work by then (I'll be honest, I'm not sure they ever will)

Cheers! and I look forward to inviting a select few to the Carbon 500 Club!
These roads are based on real roads in California, which wind through the San Gabriel mountain range, high above Los Angeles. Consisting of tight bends and fast sweepers, they are perfect for racing, drifting, cruising or driving with friends.

There are also numerous junctions, turnouts, picnic areas, parking areas and various side roads which are included as useful hideouts for NFS style pursuits. Roads are fully signed and include real world distance signs, speed & warning signs, markings, guard rails, jersey barricades and multiple dynamic parked vehicles.

does not work and the guy is a smug ass who is like you must have done something wrong when its his fault he made it not user friendly. Why couldn't it be drag and drop?
doesn't even work for me :(
Read the 'INSTALL GUIDE' included in the zip. It's worked for 500,000+ people so you've gone wrong somewhere!
this is my favorite map, you've done a great job! when I get home, I just start Assetto corsa and drive on this map. Thank you for creating this masterpiece !
Thanks, glad you're enjoying a canyon run when you get home. Cheers for taking the time to leave a review, many don't!
One of the best mods out there and for me personally, the best road to have a relaxing cruise and send it hard whenever I want.
Cheers CS, always nice to hear people relaxing and having a cruise on my tracks!
Incredible map. I wish there were norcal road mods with half the quality of your maps.
Thanks man, well if I ever make more tracks... Colorado is on my radar!
I wish i could figure out how to pay for traffic....
There's a link on my Facebook page, check the 'Spoiler: FAQ' above.

Or alternatively, there is a free traffic version on here (the AI will overtake and have headons though, f you use traffic planner app, I hear someone has made a line for it, again on here... have a search!

Or if you prefer, jump on a 'Cruisin USA' server if you want to race your friends through traffic online. Choices!
Great map
Thanks mate!
I've never reviewed anything here on RaceDepartment, or any other site for that matter. I felt that this map needed a review. I bought the premium off of your website and damn was it worth it. This map makes any car amazing to drive, drift, race, or cruise. The detail, textures, small backroads, turnouts, and views are amazing. I got the paid rain mods and they're tons of fun with this map. The map has the perfect balance of small windy roads, 2-4 lane roads/highways, and even neighborhood roads. I've always wanted to visit California. This satisfies that urge. Even though I don't have my license or permit, I can still drive around California with a Ferrari in Assetto. For anyone that's on the fence about maybe buying the premium bundle, It's 100% worth the money.
Thanks for the awesome review Johnny, and glad you're loving the VIP! Cheers!
After seeing videos online, I felt like this deserved my support. I purchased the Platinum VIP package (and you should, too) but every time I try to launch it in single player, I get the error message: "AC ran into critical error: CANNOT HAVE 0 CARS IN RACE.IN!"

I assume I did something incorrectly, but I can't find anything about this error anywhere. Can anybody help?
Thanks, the "CANNOT HAVE 0 CARS IN RACE.IN!" means the main track wasn't installed properly. Either that or you didn't select some AI opponents.
Fantastic course, tons of fun!
Completely awesome
Thanks, glad you're enjoying it!
Very good track however i am having issues using any of the layouts labelled as 'VIP', whenever i try to load into one of these a crash prompt comes up saying 'CANNOT HAVE 0 CARS IN RACE.INI'. Not sure if i need to pay for these or if they only work in servers or something, I've tried a few things but with no success.
My game crashes every single time i try to run this map.
can anybody help me ?
Read the 'Install Guide' (Included in the download) also click the Spoiler: Install button above!
one of the best tracks out there. top 3 for sure!
Thanks mate :) I hope the other 2 are scratch built, and one of them is Union Island!

Beautiful scenery and awesome drive. Nice job! Thank you.
Thanks for the review Sandstorm, have fun mate!
Ever since i became disabled, i had to sell my beloved Beetle. Last year i bought myself a gaming PC as a present, just to recreate certain races from the 80's and onwards, with the accurate liveries on the cars in Assetto Corsa. My experience with PC's are close to zero but downloading and setting up mods and things like CSP and Sol were pretty straightforward.
Then i ran into a standard Beetle mod, downloaded it immediately. Yesterday i accidentally stumbled upon your track, and since that's one of the places i've always wanted to visit, i downloaded and installed it. Took my Beetle for a ride in LA Canyons and i can hardly describe the feeling i got from the virtual experience! It's amazing!
Now for the naughty part; since i also was trying to figure out how to stream with OBS, and if my PC could handle that, i took the first drive live on YouTube in my enthusiasm before i read the "Please note" disclaimer.
So if you would grant me the permission, i'd very much appreciate it. If you want me to take it down, i respect that and will do so (monetization is disabled).
To add another compliment; one of my subscribers, who lives in that area, wrote a great comment on how realistic it all looks and recognised some parts!
I'll go check out the Platinum version and try to figure out how to add some traffic :)
Conclusion: A must have! Download/install it, take your favourite car, put some music on and just drive!
Thanks a lot for your awesome review dude! Sorry you had to sell your Beetle, but it makes me happy to hear my (and Benobro's) work helped you get back in a virtual Beetle for an amazing experience. As a modder, hearing that is about as good as it gets!

Sorry for the delay, the last few years have been.... (expletive)
Stream all you want to, and if you enable monetization, go for it.

Thanks again, and I'm really happy to give you some sense of freedom on the open road. Cheers, and take care man!
Excellent work ! It's amazing to drive on these roads.
Thanks mate, glad you're having fun in these Californian canyon roads :)
After I moved to the LA area 20+ years ago, I bought myself a new 2004 Mini Cooper S. This car was heavily modified to run in these very canyons..
You have done an amazing job of capturing the fun of driving through those hills.

I have not been up into this area for years due to high fuel costs and forest fires...

Thank you for letting me go there again..

Thanks Astra, that's great to hear, hope you manage to find a Mini Cooper S car mod to take in the virtual canyons :)
de lo mejor
Muchas gracias
Awesome work... I used to ride these these canyons every weekend until I had kids. My favorite piece (in real life) is the AFH, and it's recreated wonderfully here - Love being able to rip these roads from my couch since I rarely have a few hours free for the real thing anymore!
Thanks man, really glad you can run AFH, and in a way you couldn't sensibly do in real life. It is also great to hear about the level of re-creation achieved. Cheers!
