A Preview From Drivers Pack DLC for Raceroom

Sector3 Studios has published a new video for its incoming DLC called Drivers Pack. Now they introduce us Mazda MX5 Cup, a truly modern classic car.

Next Wednesday 14th December we will have the chance to try and drive four new cars coming in this unexpected DLC from KW Studios. Here we already talked about Circuit of Charade and its preview and now it is the turn of Mazda MX5 Racing Cup car.

Mazda MX5 Racing Cup is the probably last generation of this car to be propelled by a combustion engine. This is the fourth generation of the car and it has gained multiple recognitions around the world. It was unveiled in 2014 and it has been in production since 2015 being also the base chassis for two Abarth models.

"The Cup shows just how few modifications you need to make to an MX-5 to turn it into a bona fide racer. There’s the roll-cage for safety, an uprated ECU and improved cooling, a strengthened transmission, you can upgrade the suspension… and that’s about it. You just don’t need to do much to it – although being such a pure platform you can if you want: the possibilities are endless, as shown in the tuning scene."

With this car, KW Studios hope to fill a basic multiplayer gap for the newcomers, allowing them to fight in an equally matched series which was essentially fun.

Also, you will have three more cars to enjoy and one classic track. Praga R1 is the car driven by Jimmy Broadbent in two last seasons and two Crosslé models along with their test track in France: Charade.

I’m up for the mx5 but will most likely give the other French stuff a miss as it’s not relevant to me personally in anyway….

I'm curious how older Grand Prix cars would fare in RaceRoom. Looks like 90F would be a glimpse of sorts. Is the car riding on bias ply rubber?

i believe ; its an avon acb10 tyre ; remember this car isnt really in any fia ; historic category ; it was designed for the historic racing school ; and so runs slightly wider tyres than the original 60s car types ....

I'm looking forward to these cars so I'll be disappointed if they aren't up to scratch.

Kind of hoping the group 2 category got filled out a bit as there were some interesting cars in it looking on the internet.

I drove the AC Mazda on the short Characde mod track in celebration of this upcoming RR pack. I imagined to add the superior dogfighter AI in RR to what I had in AC, which already was a pleasant race experience. Can only get better! Great track choice, good for not superfast cars, but slower, well-behaved cars, that way you get plenty of bumper-to-bumper and door-to-door action, the track is an understatement, looks pleasant but is technically challenging, somehow it rmeidns me a bit of Bilsterberg, but even more difficult in some turns. The Mazda is an ideal choice at Charade. Looking forward to this pack. Tracks are always an instant buy, cars in RR not so much anymore, I do not need the x-th iteration of one and the same car. But this time it seems to score in both regards.

On the endless GFX engine debate, to me a race sim is not graphic demo, but either a convincing simulation experience or not. Due to the driving and the aI, RR still scores very, very high in these regards, and thats what counts to me. My race sims of choice are still the same like years agao: ACC, AC, RR, DR2, WF. I still have no urgent needs for new visuals. Driving in VR with a G2 Reverb - and absolutely smoothly so.

Haven't got Raceroom yet, not sure if I will or not (other sims, limited time, etc.). But really thinking about looking for a used ND MX-5....

Thanks for the information. That's a really interesting choice RRE, a modern recreation of a classic car. I like that. I assume the team had access to accurate information to make a realstic rendition of a classic car. As stated in the article, with theses widers tires, it looks terrific. And it comes with its official track, Charade, and it will be a perfect fit for it.

60s F1 cars were missing in Raceroom, as they became a mandatory feature in sims, but it has been made differently, with a current existing car. I'm looking forward to testing this car, as well as the Praga. This light prototype (less powerful than a lmp3 but lighter) must be really fun to drive.

I've never wanted to drive a mx5 (I must be in the minority), I really don't like its design, it is atrociuously ugly. I understand it is a classic door to door racing car and it will probably become mandatory to race online in RRE, so I'll give it a try. I would have prefered a catheram but, in the same style than the catherhams, we already have the X bow in RRE and it doesn't seem popular,.

The Crosslé cars and Charade have been developed in collaboration with the Classic Racing School :

Btw, this is my laps in the Crosslé 9s, while I recorded the onboard Zetec sound ;)

I doubt that to be true.
The few remaining staff are probably working their arses off. Their employment rests in the balance.
A blogger posted a rumour that kw studios have restructured and WOHLFARTH, Klaus is back running the show?
Sort of re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic :)
If true, it is the final nail in the coffin.
Instead of wasting your time with conspiracy theories, you simply could've looked at the official homepage of KW Studios...

Obviously, I don't want to labour the point, especially since Kenny requested that we get back on track.
But the page you linked to at no point mentions anyone's name, does it?
Anyways lets forget it, I've moved on, uninstalled Raceroom and have bigger fish to fry now. :)

Interesting that they made it a right hand drive for a French/ European driving school chassis…

I wonder if the ‘lotus’ influence is a reason for this? Seems weird when I suspect most users will be used to European left hand drive road cars and left hand drive race cars too?

Any ideas why it’s a right hand drive?

It's the Crosslé 90f (Formula Ford) that has been made specifically for the Classic Racing School. The Crosslé 9s (Sport Prototype) is a 60's model that is nowadays very popular in historic racing, and that is still built by Crosslé in Ireland. That explains the right hand drive and also because Sports Cars have been traditionally RHD since a very long time, even the italian ones ;)

Oh yes so that makes sense… I didn’t know it was an Irish company building them.

The whole thing was portrayed around the French driving school thing… it’s amazing how all the modern stuff is left hand drive… but real nice to see a ‘traditional’ right hand drive seat position in a race car.

Thanks for the insight.
