Which Circuit Would You Like to See Digitalised in a Game or Mod?

While researching racing circuits around the globe, I have come across many circuits without any digital representation. And that's a shame. Whether hosting races now or in the past, circuits should be digitalised to preserve a bit of history. So, I would like to ask you, which circuit without digital representation would you like to see featured?

I have talked about this topic before. My first article on RaceDepartment, "The Importance of Modding in Sim Racing", already mentioned that digitalisation means preserving a bit of history.

How Developers Could Benefit from Historic Venues​

However, it is not only the modders who can keep historic venues alive. The game developers themselves could take a good look at past circuits to feature in their works. At the moment, Reiza seems to be the only professional development studio somewhat focusing on historical content.

And thinking about it, that is weird.

Racing game developers have one massive pool to drown their money in: licensing costs. Licensing cars, licensing circuits, and those licenses are not cheap! This begs the question of how smaller development teams could save a lot of money by not licensing those expensive modern circuits.

Solution 2: Historical Tracks

There is a boatload of circuits across the globe which no longer exist. Many of those come from somewhat of a golden era of motorsports, the 50s and 60s. From those times, many circuits still exist today, largely unchanged. So tracks from the time can be brought up to date in terms of safety standards and the like.

So why does every racing circuit officially featured in a game need to be the same current version of the Nürburgring, Spa-Francorchamps or Suzuka?

How Modders Could Benefit from Historic Venues​

Though, some tracks should still be up for grabs for the modders. After all, with recent announcements on how the modding systems in Rennsport and GTR Revival are supposed to work, modders could earn a pretty penny modding their hometown historical circuit.

Monetary gain aside, wouldn't it just be nice to find out how it could've felt like driving that one circuit that doesn't exist anymore? That is a question I keep asking myself from time to time. And furthermore, what if that circuit wasn't abandoned but driven nowadays with modern cars?

All that beauty is possible thanks to the powers of digitalisation.

Back on Track: What Circuit Would You Like to See?​

After taking that little detour to once again hope and bring some more people into modding for digitalisation, let's get back to the question at hand.

What Circuit would you like to see featured that hasn't been digitalised yet?

Personally, I would like to see every track digitalised. My dream is to have a complete database for all of the world's racing circuits. But if I had to pick some special ones, I would choose
  • Wachauring (the circuit I live closest to)
  • Autódromo de Benguela (Angolan circuit now converted to housing)
  • Evbuobanosa Motorsport Raceway (short-lived Nigerian circuit with races between 2017 and 2020, also I tried modding this one a while back, should continue on it)

there are so many! i feel japan has a lot of gems out there, who knew Okayama (Aida)would be so good until i raced it in Iracing. Mine Circuit looks like a good one,
racingcircuits.info has like everything it is a great resource and a place to ponder on current tracks and some historics that are gone now.
I would love to see BoardTracks recreated and the track wear with missing planks be a thing for a as yet created prewar racing sim.
i do like this one though it hasn't been scanned from racingcircuits.

Cleveland Grand Prix/Cleveland Burke Lakefront. Just because it was a unique event that brings back memories for me. I know Berlin Tempelhof hosts events, but I don't think it did while it was still an operating airport.
Cleveland will always hold a spot in my memory due to Michael Andretti getting cussed at live on TV during a race by Robbie Gordon. Andretti figured out his front wing endplate would withstand a kiss against a competitor's rear tires. Thus, numerous Champcar drivers like Al Unser Jr, Jimmy Vasser etc would mysteriously suffer rear tire punctures if Andretti was chasing them. That happened to Gordon at Cleveland and his verbiage on the team radio got through to the viewers.
When I first ran that track back in the days of Indycar Racing 2, it was almost impossible to clearly see the turn in points due to the flat airport & Lake Erie framing the entire back side of the course. Much nicer now with modern sims like rF2.

I'm as guilty as anyone who has previously posted in this thread, but it seems like a good number of the tracks named are already available as official content in at least one sim or game that is still currently is use (e.g., Cleveland Burke in AMS2, Mugello in AC, Goodwood Circuit in the Gran Turismo series, etc.), which is all fine and good, but it seems like stating in unison, "I wish my favorite sim had every track that every other sim has" pretty much covers that sentiment.

Which tracks hitherto not available in a racing sim really whet your appetite?

I think it was in GPL but I'd love to see Oliver's Mount for a modern sim like AC or something. It's more of a motorbike track but I think it could be fun. When I was in college we could hear the engines in the classroom when the races were on :D

This.

A lot of the discussions seems to end up at "I want what they got"
and we end up with half a dozen sims that basicly got all the same tracks (many times converted over from one game to the others)
That's why GPL back in the day was so special. Track makers did the period circuits for it, tracks we never had driven before (and many haven't ever since)
I know it's much harder to find reference material for a track that hasn't been run since the 60's, but that doesn't seem to stop some people from creating great classics anyways.

a 1967 F1 car had the width of 1.8m (including wheels)
7.9/1.8 = 4.4
That's more than 4 cars side by side. your track is less than 3 car widths

I've run into similar situations in Grand Prix 3 track making, Hockenheim 1932, the road was very narrow, even may be less than 2 car widths (98 F1 cars). I widened it to ~2.5 car widths, fans still complained about difficulty in overtaking, after some thinking I widened it to ~3 car widths. sometimes playability comes first

okey, go back to the track file, and yes in general had 7.9 meters wide, also take dimensions of great Eagle by Pessio and it is around 2 meter, from this picture you can see there is almost possible to park 4 f1 cars at track, that does not mean you can drive 4 cars wheel to wheel,not even 3, so the track had the correct widht, wich was my main concern after your post.
so dont understand your post, the track had the correct widht, it is okey if somebody think a wider track could be better for racing, but at the end just a matter of personal taste.

For karts, maybe, but not much else. I have found quite a few bike circuits with great layouts, but are too narrow for even the smallest cars to race on :(

I remember watching a young Jacques Villeneuve zip past an Andretti/Herta argy-bargy in 1995 to take the win. That season's championship fight was effectively over after that moment.

Your screenshot quite clearly shows that it would be easy to park 3 cars side by side on that track.

Now look at my screenshot. I don't see why you couldn't park 4 cars side by side on the tarmac there.

It was over the moment JV's team chose Firestones and Unser Jr's Penske team stuck with Goodyears.

which part of track is your screenshot? sergio and my pictures are on the front straight before the loop, why in your screenshot they're driving on the right? the "black" car (can't figure out its color due to reflection) is well into the white line, is this from an online race?

It's the same straight, and from an online race. And who cares where they are driving, the track is wide enough.

Because nowhere in any straights AI drives on the right on this track unless they're trying to overtake
but I've made my point, this track is narrower than real. comparing the game screenshot and sergio's picture, I even asked those around me what they thought and they agreed the game the narrower
