BMW M8 GTE Completes Trio Of New RaceRoom Cars (Updated With Patch Notes)

RaceRoom-BMW-M8-GTE.jpg
After announcing the M2 CS Racing and the M4 GT4, RaceRoom unveiled the BMW M8 GTE to be the final car in the upcoming content drop to be released on May 22.

Three new cars are set to join RaceRoom very soon: After the BMW M2 CS Racing and the BMW M4 GT4 had been announced, the question remained what the third car for the upcoming content drop could be. Would it be a drift car? Or the current LMDh prototype?

Well, neither of them - instead, the BMW M8 GTE is joining the RaceRoom grids. This means that the Porsche 911 RSR 2019 - the only GTE car in the sim thus far - is finally getting some competition. To the dismay of many racing fans, the real-life GTE class is no more as of the start of the 2024 season, but luckily, its cars are still around in sim racing.

The M8 GTE roamed the circuits of the world from 2018 to 2021 and gained quite a bit of reputation during that time. Not necessarily because of its accolades, as it did win races in IMSA and came second in-class at the 2018 6 Hours of Fuji in WEC, but rather because of its sheer size. Countless 'Big Boi M8' memes have been created throughout the car's life cycle, as the M8 towered over its GTE competition, not to mention it absolutely dwarfing the LMP1 prototypes.

RaceRoom BMW Trio Release Date

With the announcement of the BMW M8 GTE, RaceRoom also confirmed the release date of the three cars for the sim. The BMW trio is set to launch on May 22. Meanwhile, developer KW Studios also hinted at more new content, as they have "already licensed more endurance focused cars", according to the M8 Steam news post.

Update May 22, 2024
Not only has RaceRoom added the new cars, but also made some quite extensive changes under the hood. For instance, ABS levels have been added, as well as more detailed Traction Control Settings. Additionally, several pieces of content - both cars and tracks - have been given updates, such as the Sachsenring being brought up to its 2024 spec. Imola received a similar treatment. Reworked baseline setups and and BoP tweaks round out the update.

I wait for the day, they fix the ridiculous track limits! Seems that the stewards are visually disabled.
Indeed, you're right, this is annoying. In many corners, just a wheel on a curb is considered off limits. It is a major issue during qualifications or to set the adaptive AI (which waits for the player to make a clean lap).

actually limits are fine and they just used best possible rule means white line rule, 1 wheel on the track (before white line) and u are fine
people are just used to abuse track limits, that white line is there for a reason and that rule is the best u can use for simracing since it's consistent across the board

Abusing track limits is part of the racing. FIA F1''s regulation states in the article 33.3 :
“Drivers will be judged to have left the track if no part of the car remains in contact with it and, for the avoidance of doubt, any white lines defining the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not.”
It may be not that easy.to implement in a game, but at least 2 wheels should be allowed outside the white line (I must admit I thought it was the rule before I made some research 1nd found this article, which shows even more tolerance).

In general in simracing, for online races, to avoid using the often unfair off limits detection system, maybe giving the option to add sausage kurbs or gravel on all corners would do a much better job.

so raceroom rules are as fia basic rules , and a little nicer ... as long as 1 wheel touches the white line your deemed to be on track

how dare raceroom implement something so close to real life rules that is so easy to understand

im glad we cleared that up

It is the contrary. You're often off limits in Raceroom as soon as one wheel is outside the line. FIA rule states you are off limits as soon as 4 wheels are outside, only one wheel inside is ok.

The M8 GTE is probably my favorite of the bunch. The CS is probably a lot of fun, but testing it at Pau and then Imola, I didn't jive with it.

Moving on to the M4 GT4, it isn't much different than the prior BMW GT4. It is only slightly more neutral, but that is about it from what I expierenced. Lapping the Nordschleife was just as effortless as the older GT4. It did well at Portamao though. It was a little faster than the old GT4.

The M8 GTE though... That car just does everything well. The car was a lot of fun. It rotated with ease, it felt planted on just about every turn I encountered. I spent most of my time testing the cars with the M8. I went back to Raceroom the following day, just to run the M8 for a few hours.

Yeah... The M8 is where it's at!
