One of the most hotly anticipated Formula One races of the season once again takes place on the streets of the Principality of Monte Carlo, the coveted Monaco Grand Prix.

Just a week after the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, the Formula One fraternity makes station at Monte Carlo for the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. With McLaren appearing to have woken up a beast in Lando Norris, and Max Verstappen's Red Bull team in PR tatters, can the charging bull hold off the papaya missile?

McLaren's Tribute To Aryton Senna

McLaren will run a spectacular one-off, Ayrton Senna-inspired yellow, green and blue full-car livery at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. This comes a few weeks after the 30th anniversaries of the Brazilian's and Roland Ratzenberger's deaths at Imola in 1994 - a fitting tribute for Senna, who was a noted Monaco specialist and won there a record six times.

Team Principal Zak Brown had some heartfelt words to say about Mclaren's most successful driver.

“The team is proud to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary life and racing legacy of Ayrton Senna through this McLaren livery,” said Brown.

“Senna remains revered and respected as Formula 1’s greatest icon, and McLaren’s most decorated driver.

“His impact on McLaren is enormous, not only through his racing record but also his presence within the team, and now his legacy, so it’s an honour to race for him at his most successful circuit in his green, yellow and blue colours.

Is Red Bull falling apart?

Twice in the last two race previews, Adrian Newey has been mentioned in transfer talks. Whilst no new news on where the design genius will go has surfaced, his once beloved Red Bull team seems to be buckling under the pressure of the inter-team conflicts and the more obvious threat, McLaren.

Verstappen was beaten on merit in Miami and had a hard-fought battle with Norris again in Imola. All these signs point to this season being anything but a walk in the park for the Dutchman - at least as it stands ahead of the Monaco GP. McLaren sit third in the constructors’ championship behind Red Bull and Ferrari heading into the principality on the weekend.

The headlines have been rather quiet in the buildup to this weekend's Grand Prix, expect to see this piece broaden throughout the weekend.

What can McLaren do to topple the Red Bull dominance? Could Lando take the fight to Verstappen for the third race in a row?

Let us know in the poll, down in the comments or over on X @OverTake_gg who you will be supporting and who you would like to see finish in the top ten and why this weekend!

I am NOT a fan of these huge Luxo-Yachts they call f1 these days, but going back to the 60's and 90's to show a venue is outdated?

No, Monaco was an anachronism beck then; it was even ill-suited to cars of the fifties. Only the fact that Monaco is a millionaires' playground and the "race" is a weekend long party has kept it active. The race itself is little more than a medium speed parade for a couple of hours.

Yeah, Elitist... imagine, everybody that finished the race those years celebrates on the podium except you, how cruel!

The point being the circuit itself is ill suited for any type of high powered cars, it is only the locale that keeps this race active.

Monaco altijd........

Next year Monaco will have cars that accelerate faster than F1 showing that racing is very much possible around those streets...

No it's not a new series...

Formula E have had epic races around those streets for years, and the Gen 3 evo with it's 4WD is faster at accelerating than any F1 car ever...

F1 is too big and clumsy for the streets of Monaco... Sim racing has shown me that it's a great track in other formula and provides nothing but frustration in a F1 car when behind a slower driver...

Russell had a new front wing on his car, that could explain Russell qualifying ahead.
No. Russell had car problems in FP1 and FP2 and fixed by FP3, in which Russell had to get up to speed with the new setup. The new wing making the difference is purely conjecture but surely is good for the Ham-cult to have some spin and for Hamilton to have something to blame. Poor guy, he's been such a victim all these years, preventing him from having any success.

I can see Gen5 Alonso vs Lewis :x3:

I hope Magnussen will finally be dropped now.
Or banned for 2 races.
His last 2 year have been a total mess.

Monaco boring? Yes, takes a long time to repair the barrier :)

Perez street circuit wizard.... except Monaco lol

Kmag always placing his car in weird spots.

Ocon being Ocon. How does he always crash with his teammates?

Sainz got so lucky on the restart order.

Magnussen may get off the hook here because Perez was found to have been looking in his mirrors several times by Sky's analysis team, yet closed the gap anyway.

I've watched a few of the videos for what you mention and they look fantastic, the racing around places like Monaco or similar tracks will be amazing, they sure as hell can overtake and city circuits have ample room for really good racing in this formula.

Its strange watching them power past a camera though with virtually zero sound other than wind disturbance, i cant understand why acoustics seem to get ignored, as a good soundtrack really adds to the spectacle.

Great job CL & OP.

Norris should've been on the podium.

Thanks for Hamilton & Verstappen pitting for at least bringing back some interest.

I expected either Stroll or Sarge to park it in the wall for another red flag. Too bad.

Nice to see the Prince joining in with the Champaign celebrations, it use to be a 'no no' to get anywhere near the 'family' with the Champaign.
As for the race, nah!, it wasn't a race it was just a strategic parade.

Oh yeah, is Ocon gonna get the tin tack, it's about time F1 as a whole realised that the guy sees every team mate he's ever had as 'the enemy'

That has long been the major issue with Monaco - too narrow and tight for safe passing, so every "race" is just a medium speed parade through the streets. Underscored by a driver's comment after today's race, "I couldn't pass him so I could only pressure him and hope he made a mistake, but he didn't".

A good finish today, but still not a good race.

Monaco has held 69 modern F1 races; 31 were won from the pole, 16 from second place start, 12 from third. 59 of 69 races won from the top three starting positions, this track is a no passing zone. But it is an excellent party facility.
