One of the most hotly anticipated Formula One races of the season once again takes place on the streets of the Principality of Monte Carlo, the coveted Monaco Grand Prix.

Just a week after the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, the Formula One fraternity makes station at Monte Carlo for the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. With McLaren appearing to have woken up a beast in Lando Norris, and Max Verstappen's Red Bull team in PR tatters, can the charging bull hold off the papaya missile?

McLaren's Tribute To Aryton Senna

McLaren will run a spectacular one-off, Ayrton Senna-inspired yellow, green and blue full-car livery at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. This comes a few weeks after the 30th anniversaries of the Brazilian's and Roland Ratzenberger's deaths at Imola in 1994 - a fitting tribute for Senna, who was a noted Monaco specialist and won there a record six times.

Team Principal Zak Brown had some heartfelt words to say about Mclaren's most successful driver.

“The team is proud to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary life and racing legacy of Ayrton Senna through this McLaren livery,” said Brown.

“Senna remains revered and respected as Formula 1’s greatest icon, and McLaren’s most decorated driver.

“His impact on McLaren is enormous, not only through his racing record but also his presence within the team, and now his legacy, so it’s an honour to race for him at his most successful circuit in his green, yellow and blue colours.

Is Red Bull falling apart?

Twice in the last two race previews, Adrian Newey has been mentioned in transfer talks. Whilst no new news on where the design genius will go has surfaced, his once beloved Red Bull team seems to be buckling under the pressure of the inter-team conflicts and the more obvious threat, McLaren.

Verstappen was beaten on merit in Miami and had a hard-fought battle with Norris again in Imola. All these signs point to this season being anything but a walk in the park for the Dutchman - at least as it stands ahead of the Monaco GP. McLaren sit third in the constructors’ championship behind Red Bull and Ferrari heading into the principality on the weekend.

The headlines have been rather quiet in the buildup to this weekend's Grand Prix, expect to see this piece broaden throughout the weekend.

What can McLaren do to topple the Red Bull dominance? Could Lando take the fight to Verstappen for the third race in a row?

Let us know in the poll, down in the comments or over on X @OverTake_gg who you will be supporting and who you would like to see finish in the top ten and why this weekend!

Oh Christ - not anti-Hamilton brigade here, too! Shouldn't you lot be in school?
What on a Sunday evening?

Well Johnny, stick around for the
Anti Verstappen Brigade, the Anti Magnussen Brigade, the Anti Stroll Brigade, the Anti Sargent Brigade... there's over a dozen more, then there's the
Anti Horner Brigade, the Anti Wolff Brigade, and there was even a few that were Anti Mercedes and even more Anti Red Bull.
Welcome to the life of having an opinion on the forum.

Just drop the race already. It doesn’t work. It’s all pageantry and no race. The only bit of semi excitement was when Mercedes made a mistake and pitted Hamilton, which didn’t matter anyway.
It works with smaller cars, watch the Formula E races there. The problem isnt the track its the monstrous cars they currently run.

I can see Gen5 Alonso vs Lewis :x3:

As Eddie Jordan says... They're already in the old mans sport of F1...

There's no one past 40 in Formula E, the cars are too fast and hard to drive for the old boys... :speechless::x3::roflmao::roflmao:

I've watched a few of the videos for what you mention and they look fantastic, the racing around places like Monaco or similar tracks will be amazing, they sure as hell can overtake and city circuits have ample room for really good racing in this formula.

Its strange watching them power past a camera though with virtually zero sound other than wind disturbance, i cant understand why acoustics seem to get ignored, as a good soundtrack really adds to the spectacle.

It's like watching those Audi diesel LMP1s... There's nothing but a high pitched whine... To me it's a little better than hearing someone doing their gardening in my living room like those v6 turbos... It's not for everyone and to me the racing matters far more...

That has long been the major issue with Monaco - too narrow and tight for safe passing, so every "race" is just a medium speed parade through the streets. Underscored by a driver's comment after today's race, "I couldn't pass him so I could only pressure him and hope he made a mistake, but he didn't".

That's an F1 regulations issue... Cars are far too big and rely far too heavily on over the body aero... Open wheelers with better regulations show that epic races can be had in Monaco...

My introduction to F-1 was, by chance, being in France during race weekend working. My coworker asked if I wanted to go to a car race and I said, "why not". We went to the race and I was in awe of the whole event. I couldn't believe that people could drive cars that fast on a city street without dying. And the parties and events were incredible.

The year was 1994 and Schumacher was the winner and Martin Brundle finished 2nd. I had no idea who these guys were, but Monaco has always been special to me because of that day.

That being said, I believe that unless the cars get smaller or they eliminate the chicane coming out of the tunnel, the race should be abandoned. Without those changes, Monaco will either have to be considered a throw-away weekend or the drivers will have to go into Darwin mode and just go for it to see who is the last standing.

“The Mercedes is over 5.7 metres long, it’s two metres wide,” says Scarborough. “Trying to put that into context, ... this Formula 1 Mercedes is bigger in length and in width than the S-Class road car.”

Let's return to the days when F1 was small, light, and nimble ...not a high tech "land barge".
In theory, that sounds nice. I agree, the cars are too long and heavy. But in reality, you have to make cars as safe as they are now while making them smaller. Not an easy thing to do. One of the reasons the cars are so big now is safety. That's not the only reason. The power units are much bigger nowadays and many people say "let's go back to the V8 engine". But manufacturers are not interested in going back to simple normally aspirated engines and what's more, F1 has always been about using the latest technology.

The regulations are definitely the big issue there...

Small, nimble and higher tech is what I like in an open wheeler... Hence I like Formula E as much as I do...

The first hydrogen only fuel series will also be a big tech geek tune in moment for me...

F1 has always been about using the latest technology.

Since the mid 90s it's been stale... Got a little ahead of the game when ERS systems were introduced then LMP1 Audi/Toyota/Porsche happened in WEC and F1 fell behind in the technological race in motorsports...

Now motorsports cutting edge of technology is in Formula E... Until Toyota brings it's Hydrogen fueled hypercar to WEC...

Some people thank cost capping for this, but it's really the oil money keeping the old technology alive...

I hope the changes for the 2026 season bring about the removal of celebrity entourages, these most of these muppets don't know what day it is let alone why they're here doing their strut..

As for Martin's grid walk, with the removal of the "look at me because I'm super important muppets" we could have some doorstep interviews with Mechanics, Drivers and Bosses, and get it the hell under way.

just thinking, if the cars are smaller in 2026, then might we see a return of the 3,2,3 grids? hmmmm!

Honda also have a bit of history with Hydrogen cars, I seem to remember James May drove one in the USA in the old Top Gear program, stating that it felt like a 'normal' car with range and performance and filling it up took just as long as filling up a diesel or petrol car.
So the question is,
did Sunni Rishak fill his bank account with back handers from the Oil companies when giving out the licences to squeeze every last drop of North Sea oil out knowing that Hydrogen is the way to go?
How much have Honda and the Japanese car industry in general advanced since that top gear feature 2007.

I would be distraught if there was no Monaco GP on the calendar. I know the races can be less than exciting most times but funnily enough, it's not the actual racing that makes Monaco special for me, it's more the whole weekend atmosphere, with Qualifying being the star of the show. I even enjoy the follow-the-leader races, there's always something of interest and it's a spectacle to see F1 cars around a challenging circuit. The comments about 'lardy cars are valid, of course, but this last race was spoilt by Red Flag rules. Tyres, if changed, should only be changed to the same compound, this ensures there will be at least one pit-stop for all cars when the race restarts.
I would love to see 'Monaco spec F1 cars' but I know that will never happen but I do wonder if it's easily achieved to have all cars use steel brakes just for Monaco?

They could almost start using shifter gokarts on Monaco instead of F1 cars.

I wonder who would win then? Alonso seems to still spend a lot of time in a go kart.

Couldn't agree more. The walks become desperate as fewer and fewer real interviewees are available. If I have to see an on-screen explanation of who Martin is talking to, then it is just a waste of time. I don't care if a kickball player is there, nor do I care if an actor pimping a new film is there. I do wonder if Toto or Fred etc have final thoughts, if Ocon has pre-planned his mugging of his team mate. If Lewis is truly happy being on different tires than the rest of the front runners. When I have DVR capability, which I do not at this time, I never record the pre-race show. So to ensure I didn't miss the start, I sat through that painful dribble.

Most of these interview segments today, in any series, come across as more like Entertainment Tonight than a pre-race show. I skip everything til the green flag drops.
