GTR Revival: New Logo & First Screenshot Unveiled

GTR Revival Logo.jpg
Having gotten the developer core of the GTR series back together, Straigth4 Studios is working on a new sim that should follow in the - certainly enormous - footsteps of both previous titles in the series. Now, the very first in-engine screenshot is available, courtesy of Studio Head Ian Bell, in addition to a logo for the project.

GTR and GTR2 have set new standards for endurance racing simulations in the mid-2000s, and GTR Revival wants to expand on this legacy: AI-based commentary and race engineers, varied content and a partnership with Reiza Studios seem like promising cornerstones for most of the team that had also worked on the original titles.

Not too much about GTR Revival was shown thus far, apart from detailed info on Straight4's personnel and their plans. Bell had promised to show in-engine footage soon on Twitter this week, and he delivered just a day later.

GTR Revival Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II Cockpit.jpg

In it, the cockpit of an Audi R8 LMS GT3 (presumably the Evo II version, as it is the most recent one) is visible, entering the S do Senna at Interlagos - likely a nod to Reiza's involvement with Straight4. The screenshot shows off detailed visuals and interesting lighting with what looks like rain clouds rolling in over the Brazilian circuit.

GTR Revival is not another title in the line of GT3 simulators, though, as the Straight4 team has expressed its desire to create different content from throughout the years of racing history as well, and it could also mean the return of the car and track rosters of the previous GTR titles.

New Tire Model Coming

Bell also confirmed the development of a new tire model for the title: The Seta model, which is rooted in the Madness engine Bell and his former team at Slightly Mad Studios created, will receive a successor called Seta 2 for GTR Revival. Seta had recently been the focus of Reiza's in Automobilista 2, as the Brazilians had discovered that remnants of the old ISI-based engine interfered with Seta to cause undesirable handling, resulting in the big improvements of the recent v1.5 update.

GTR Revival does not have a fixed release date yet, but Straight4 is aiming for a launch in late 2024.

In 2021, AMS2 had a relatively big update. An update that brought in quite a bit of new players, but more than that, more players stayed with the game. The dropoff in players between sales/content updates were smaller, and the userbase were bigger.
People praised the driving of the game, that the physics updates had been good. What's not being talked about publicly that much is that S397 have been helping Reiza out. It's not Reiza taking pCars2 physic and polishing it.
We know that pCars have taken from ISIMotor, e.g the ISI Base Physics and suspension physics when they made the Madness-engine, and while it's obviously been changed and worked on. However, it's not a scratch built thing. Which makes it easier for a company like S397 to jump in and help. And it also makes it possible to use knowledge gained from rF2 and transfer parts of it to AMS2.

It may all be a big coincidence of course...
Ahahah now you are saying S397 is contributing to AMS2? Any proof of what you are stating or just conspiracy theories? :roflmao:

This is sad.

I dont think being skeptical about guy who has overpromised and underdelivered more than not in recent memory is all that weird but yall do you. Anyway my major issue with madness sims has always been how weird the collisions feel with the car basically not having any elastic collisions and just flying after hitting walls etc

Conspiracy theory? I guess if two firms, or people work together, they can "conspire".
But I would like to know where the conspiracy theory is?

Other than that, you are asking a question already answered.

Where your whole theory falls off, is with the fact that S397 never coded an engine; that heavylifting was done by ISI. S397 just bought the abandoned package, produced an UI, content, and little advancement in physics until...last year? Or was it this one? When cars did not have to be setup anymore like a wingless trike to be fast?

And I'm not even bothering to expand on them being under MSG umbrella, and how that impacts their boundaries of work.

So yeah, not buying your theory at all.

Oh, nice. I will put my copy of that game on the same shelf in where I have stored my copy of Racing Legends and the S3 of Live for Speed. Exquisite vaporware.

No Lister Storm, No Murcielago R-GT, No 575 GTC, No M3 GTR.

If I wanted to play a modern GT3 / GT4 sim, what's the point on spending money on this when we could already play ACC & iRacing?

Like it or not, people are only paying attention to this title because of nostalgia.

Great news if it has the madness engine! Let's hope that they can solve the bugs and that each bug will be solved mutually for AMS2.

The netcode has huge issues, the flickering textures in VR is a ongoing issue, the rain effect that could be seen through hills and inside the cars and the metal sparks are all unsolved issues, also the performance for night racing should be improved (headlights for other cars then your own should be off/or their lighting not reflect everything), also there are still random unsolved stutters/mini freezes even with the fastest pc available so that's also a serious bug that should be solved.

But besides the issues/bugs, the madness engine is a great engine, it has with Reizas physics work the most alive car feeling, great VR besides the mentioned issues and great ffb/motion/graphics/weather system/performance.

I really hope that they fully moved away from that horrible Unreal engine otherwise it's doomed for all VR users. It's still unclear now what's really going on.
Update: It's still Unreal engine, so probably no proper VR(or Ian must do some magic trick) probably as could be read in this interview from 3 july:

Terrible choice!

Not literally "conspiracy". Anyway pretty fascinating theory, maybe even possible in another universe (Reiza is in good terms with pretty much everyone except JB), but not even a hint of truth in it as far as I am aware in THIS ACTUAL universe.

The only thing Ian bell is good at is marketing...

The mess that is the Madness engine and now there's a successor to a tyre model that is only coming out of BETA now?

Anyone who buys into this new project of Ian Bells has to be on some good hallucinogens...

Looking forward to it but not gonna lie teasing with the most generic GT3 image is so tired

Let's see.
A meaningless logo.
A single meaningless picture.
Has it been edited with Photoshop?
Is it really out of the game?
Nobody knows.
Due to the extremely poor information I can not get any picture of it.
I only know what I don't need.
Talking on the radio, spinning cooling fans like in some AC mods, opening hoods and doors like in some AC mods. Unnecessary waste of resources.
But I also know what I want.
A damage model that makes the vehicle really undriveable, a damage model for historic vehicles that includes engine bursts, broken springs, broken brake discs and all those little antics.
I don't care whether they take canned racetracks or vehicles. Will happen anyway.
Spa, Monza, Silverstone, Nürburgring, maybe Imola, Laguna Seca, GT content, Hypercar, Monoposti.
As in every available sim. Ultimately nothing that doesn't exist in other sims.
Be it as a mod or in the game itself.
Of course there will again be a physics that not even Nobel Prize winners in theoretical physics understand, that will sweep away everything that has existed so far.
There is one thing the programmers will never be able to do, no matter what fancy words the marketing departments come up with.
Centrifugal forces acting on the driver.
They can design the most physical physics, they can develop the best tire model.
As long as I don't feel these effects on my body, they can talk until the sky has green-brown stripes.
And no, a moving rig is no substitute for real centrifugal forces in motorsport.
So why switch?
Since I don't have any expectations, I've been playing for far too long for that, so I can't be disappointed. Maybe I've lost interest by the time this Sim appears, emigrated,
or the Earth was hit by an asteroid.
I don't know it.
Nobody knows.

A very nice weekend

Which GULAG you are living in?

People raise their concerns based on previous experience which wasn't pleasant. Ian Bell likes to overpromise and underdeliver and here we go again, hearing sweet notes from him that in reality won't materialize in quality, coherent racing game without major and annoying bugs.

By proposing to close the comment section you are showing your tendency to confirmation bias and inability to handle critique that in this particular case is warranted. Grow up already.
