In a switch, the upcoming official Le Mans and WEC game will still launch on 20th February 2024, but in an Early Access state.

Following a delay from December ‘23 to February ‘24, Le Mans Ultimate will now release initially as an Early Access title as work continues at developer Studio 397.

Based upon the basic architecture of existing simulation platform rFactor 2, but with several planned enhancements, it will feature content from the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship at launch.

This hasn’t changed with the Early Access programme, with the 12 car models used in the series last year represented at launch alongside the seven circuits in their championship layouts – the team is exploring the possibility of additional configurations for a later date.

Today’s new trailer showcases glimpses of the Aston Martin Vantage GTE, Porsche 911 RSR GTE, Cadillac V-Series.R (running on electricity in the pitlane) and the Glickenhaus SCG 007 for the first time. It does not, however, show the HUD.

The Bahrain International Circuit, at night, Fuji Speedway and Sebring’s pitlane can also briefly be spotted. Markedly, several cars are seen racing on track at once, something most prior updates were missing.

All venues are set to include day-to-night cycles, dynamic weather and track surface evolution analogous to Factor 2’s Real Road 2.0 system.

All vehicles are said to have been rebuilt from the ground up, inside and out, for LMU – even if some of the cars are shared with the outfit’s prior titles. Over 100 real-world liveries will be available from launch too, including variations of sponsors or 24 Hours of Le Mans-specific designs.

The Garage 56 modified Chevrolet NASCAR that competed at the centenary event as a one-off is omitted, however.

Ahead of the release date, we hope to see footage or images of the Corvette GTE, Glickenhaus SCG 007 and Cadillac V-Series.R alongside Sebring and Fuji Speedway. Gameplay footage has previously recently been published for the Toyota GR010 at Portimão and Ferrari 499P at Monza, while today’s footage also sees the Ferrari 488 GTE, Porsche 963 and wingless Peugeot 9X8 on track.

As for 2024-season content, or historical vehicles, there’s the following hint provided by Motorsport Games: “There is certainly a huge amount of current and historic inspiration to draw from!”

Ranked Multiplayer Included At Launch

During the Early Access phases, Motorsport Games’ RaceControl online ranking system – with driver and safety ratings – will be available.

Claimed to carry across learnings from having the system in rFactor 2, there will be daily races available at intervals across three levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.

Creating your owner server, however, will be a notable omission initially, with that and the ability to enter special events slated for updates post-release.

“We’ve got some great plans to run championships and esports tournaments in the future and are building out functionality to create online championships and more,” reads the platform’s newly published FAQ. Did someone say a 24 Hours of Le Mans special event?

Outside of the online competitions, you will be able to use a system called Race Weekend to configure single-player events to your liking, including multi-class races. However, it’s not yet clear if multiplayer will be available initially with multi-class or driver swaps.

Co-op Mode, VR, Missing – For Now

Speaking of switching drivers, the much-hyped asynchronous cooperative multiplayer mode is an absentee for now.

“Unfortunately, whilst we do have a working prototype, this innovative game mode is not quite ready for release and such we are working hard on this feature with the intent on making it available in the summer during the Early Access phase,” explains the development team.

Perhaps more pertinently, considering rFactor 2’s support, virtual reality is not available in February, but we expect it to follow. It’s not clear if triple-screen gameplay is possible come the launch, either.

There’s no word at all if a form of single-player career or championship mode is in development. As an officially licenced and dedicated platform, much like Assetto Corsa Competizione, modding is not supported.

The recommended PC specifications have also been published. We have more details in a separate article, but they seem very accessible to us.

Pricing confirmed

Those who take the plunge and purchase Le Mans Ultimate on 20th February 2024 as an Early Access title should expect to pay €29.99/£24.99/ $32.99 (USD).

The initial offering for the game will be the lowest price for the game in its Early Access phase,” explains the creators.

“Those early adopters will enjoy playing the game early with access to features and content, whilst also helping input into the future roadmap of the product with new features and updates being delivered to players when they are ready as part of the initial price.

“We also hope to even have a few gifts or two throughout Early Access.”

An estimation of how long it will be in this development phase is not yet known.

My comment was less that reskins should be lower, and more that your comment seemed to indicate an assumption that a low price point means it's more than a reskin.

I still don't understand the logic. If it's more work, why would it be less?
Reskin = should be cheaper, usually isn't though
Early Access = should be cheaper than full release, and it usually is

I am not surprised about the price. I am surprised it's early access, because I was under the impression it's a glorified reskin. If one reskins a 10+ year game, it's strange that it goes into early access, thus the assumption that it might be more than a glorified reskin. We will see.

It´s a shame they didn´t reach any of their targets till release. Biggest task for them from my point of view was to get a proper multiplayer mode done, because every sim without proper MP suffers incl. RF2, right.
We should pay for this no way, Spent time, money and passion to becoming fast in the end its just a dead horse. Graphics are nice by the way....but no triple maybe omg

I'm ok with early access, no problem, but I also think that MSG needs cash and simply can't afford to delay a release much longer, so better to sell an early version, at a reduced price, right now than wait another 3 months or so.

Well, the steam store is updated and the system specs are finally available. No price tag still in my local currency.

While I fully support getting it right over rushing to call something finished when it's not, this still seems a bit disappointing.

VR especially seems like something that a lot of people will be upset about.

It does also raise questions about the overall level of polish which is again disappointing. No mention of much in the way of single player is a let down too, despite it not being something I use myself much it feels like something a dedicated game should have.

It is leaving me wondering if the Majors 24 for iRacing is still going to be my best bet for experiencing the race virtually, or AMS2 if I wanted single player against AI
Not upset, personally, but will not be buying it until it's implemented. Not for some moral grandstanding, but because I do not even have a monitor integrated with my rig. Disappointing for sure, but my hope is that they intend to do VR justice in the same way AMS2 and AC CSP has, if not better. Same reason I have not given a dime to EA for WRC, promises are nice but I would be legitimately surprised if VR even makes it into WRC at this point between layoffs and their inability to get the base game patched to an acceptable state if I am to believe the online criticism.

I have faith in the folks at S397, but with MSG in freefall I won't bet on the VR horse until I see it.

Please if anyone can confirm, a youtuber said the World Endurance Championship in LMU will have no single player championship offline. Surely that is misinformation?

From my understanding they definitely plan to add it but it's not there for early access release unfortunately.

...and is what others also do. This approach is in general not reprehensible. It only comes at a short notice.

At EA yes according S397. Did we have a SP championship in ACC or AMS2 EA? If I remember correct, we hadn't too.

Essentially LMU EA looks like a rF2 DLC at this point. It isn't bringing anything more than any other rF2 DLC on the 20th. That being said, if the quality is on par with the BTCC and 992 Cup stuff (AI included), the EA price is decent enough, even if the game never gets any of the promised functionality - which I don't consider out of MSG's realm of possibility at this point.

(This is said as someone who has specifically held off buying any rF2 endurance dlc in anticipation of LMU. If I had already bought the rF2 DLC ... :cautious: )

Change to early access just a couple of weeks before release? Yup, exit scam.
Pretty sure MSG won't stay afloat/around long enough to be able to finish what looks to be glorified rf2 DLC.
I think S397 has enough going on between rF2 and LMU that worst case they would be bought as MSG is sold off for parts, at least leaving a good possibility that work on LMU continues.

This EA are bad news for rF2. Means...there will be (just what I assume) for a longer period no or only little progress. Not that I'm very surpised but I would assume it's more ore less clear(er) now.

Vid looks interesting (way better than the Toyota presentation), EA price interesting (in the hope it will be in a decent state and will be updated as promised). All a matter of trust, belief and how much of support someone wants to provide.
I wonder if you kept that same energy with the AMS2 early access release or any EA game from that matter:rolleyes:

Interesting that something that is done by basicly all developers these days is considered as a scam by some people in the community. I remember some other titles releasing with alot less content than LMU wich wasn't such a big issue for Kunos fans. And I didn't get all promised features in other titles either at lauch nor at all, so I still have a hard time understanding why S397 get's treated in a different way. What makes them different that they aren't allowed to use an EA phase to iron out teething issues or implement features that didn't make it day 1? Just because they have the parent company called MSG? At this price I see it as a bargain considering what I get for the same amount of money in other titles. In AMS2 I have to pay 30 Euros to just get Le Mans, three LMDh cars and three GTEs. Even the rF2 DLCs are expensive in comparison to this title.

A lot of assumptions here, or do some have some access to inside information?

Most games that are released in EA have reduced prices, but when LMU gets an EA, it is because MSG wants your cash and then is going to lay off Studio 397 developers and all future development and support will stop…
Also people complaining before about the high price LMU will be released at, but now it is only about €30 in EA, and now the problem is it is less priced than some rF2 DLC, so this must be just a reskin of rF2 DLC…
And then VR… I play rF2 in VR as well since a few months, but als have been playing on a ultra-wide monitor for many years. No problem doing that again for LMU… VR will come later.

It was already a day one purchase for me, and at €30 it even is a bargain. And… if all negative predictions of some people come true… I only ‘lost’ €30… life will go on…

I expect them to announce that it is in the works, as I've said, I'm excited for this game but only for an offline WEC. Without confirmation that it is in the works, I can't purchase it in the hope that it is planned, that if it is announced as planned it will actually be delivered and if delivered it will be within a reasonable time. Early access needs to let me know so I can pay them money before what I want is delivered, this is why trust is so important with developers. They have a paying customer here.

Premium
Hmm about 50$aud for this when I am a strictly SP guy, nah don't think so
Wait and watch and see how it all plays out over the coming months

I can see it now.

"This game is broken and borderline unplayable!!"

"It's in early access bro. Stop hating"

Maybe they will pull the old OG AMS2 excuse: "They are building the foundation...give it time"

Or the " It's a small developer" talking point.

I can't wait for this disaster to unfold and laugh at all the suckers WHO FELL FOR IT ..... AGAIN.
