Most Played Racing Games On Steam In December 2023

Most-Played-Racing-Games-Steam-December-2023-Automobilista-2-Biggest-Gain-576p.jpg
The final month of the year tends to come with more spare time for many sim racers, and 2023 seemingly was no different. Here are the most played racing games on Steam in December 2023.

Note: While iRacing is available on Steam as well, its numbers are not representative as most players acces the sim through its own UI. As a result, its statistics are not included in this article.

Once again, the order at the top of the list remains largely unchanged. Only F1 23 has left its place in the top five, dropping down to seventh overall, behind SnowRunner and Need For Speed Heat. Like many titles, the latter two saw an increase in player numbers in December, likely in part due to the holidays.

The same is true for BeamNG.drive, which keeps its top spot with the most average players over the course of the month. However, the highest peak went to Forza Horizon 5, which still sits in second. Assetto Corsa stays on the final step of the podium, albeit with a healthy margin to the top two.

Looking at the percentage of average players gained, Automobilista 2 stands out as the most improved sim racing title. Despite the big Le Mans update only dropping on New Year's Eve, the title had 44.34% more average players than back in November. The January 2024 numbers for AMS2 should be a good indicator for how many of these players have stuck around, then. The biggest improvement percentage of all games goes to Need For Speed Unbound at 47.91%.

Meanwhile, in its second month since release, EA Sports WRC has lost a considerable amount of players. The title may have seen the addition of the Central European Rally, but the update that introduced it also broke the Career Mode for many players. The ongoing issues with the title likely do not help player counts.

Stop this silliness of calling it a community in the first place.
Look at the range of games on that list, take just 1, Assetto Corsa, and within that one game on that big list there isn't a definite 'community' as its split into drifting, drag racing, etc etc just that one game can't claim on a 'community' as a whole...
So your expecting a community based around every game on that list JUST because they have cars in them?
No chance.
I have always found this 'community' word really odd anyway in this context.
Communities' can be controlled, so people with the inclination and the time fight for that control and they are always the last people you'd want to have control...
Basically, politics..... and i just want to enjoy gaming the games i like....

If i was playing a game and enjoyed it and found out that i was the only one, why would i suddenly feel different?
Who cares?
This list is good for letting us know that developers (who want to make money) know that people like to have a sandbox game to fiddle with or get random selections of mods freely.
Or simply that people want Forza Horizon despite the fact that no one ever admits it!
I was talking about Race Department, but whatever...

That's one of the problems, people forget the adage don't feed the troll.
Cannot overstate this. Use the Ignore function. I'm close to putting on that list those who constantly reply, trying to address the same trolls time and time again, without realizing that they are being functional to their game. They can scream alone into the void all that they want.

I'm a little surprised the rF2 is so far down the list as the RaceControl servers appear to be quite busy, and the laptime stats for each grouping would indicate that there are more taking part than these figures indicate.
Its had no content released for it for a while now.

RF2 has rocketed the charts with is brilliant online system

oh wait
It is good..however, I lost interest because...
1.The series changed every week, I prefer to stick with one car for a few weeks and I think going by LFM/iRacing numbers so do most people.
2.There is not web interface, firing up the game to see what's going on is a PITA.

There are infos on rf2 instagram with the week calendar

Well yeah, that is just the last one.

Personally, after racing on rF2 every other sim seems to be missing something.
I can show you more if you like, nothing to do with the news.
Oh look how strange a rF2 fanboy ratting out another. lol

Anyone knows if this Porsche on the article's images (specifically this one) is on AC? (not ACC) with the same livery? I'd like to know who makes the mod. Super appreciated!

AC still strong, AMS2 making good progress and EA aquiring and then ruining a successful franchise with it's magic fairy dust. Seems like we've been here before - happy 2024 everyone!

If players don't even play titles other than AC, which according to these charts is more or less exactly what is happening (and is my fundamental point) then it's the players who are not giving other games enough chance. The statistic don't lie, unless your argument is that nothing but AC deserves time and attention because it's so superior to the competition, in which case that makes you a fanboy as anyone with an unbiased ability to assess can see that other sims are just as worth playing. Your second comment reinforces this mentality perfectly by your seemingly absolutely exclusive love and commitment toward AC2 (due to AC1) before even any significant reveal has happened yet.
Once again, it not up to the consumer to go out and support games that they don't like. I bought AMS 2 in beta to support AMS. Mainly because I enjoy AMS 1. For me, AMS 1 still on SSD... AMS 2 deleted!! If the industry needs people to blindly throw their money at it to keep their business' floating... then they need to do better. It seems by you comments on here, you are the fanboy, albeit butthurt!!! As far as my second comment...it was a joke on your chicken little attitude that the sky is falling... and the industry is going to dry up!!!! But you know what they say about people that, can't take a joke!!!

Why are you so angry with me? Because I have an opinion that you don't share? Are my words really that offensive to you? Or more appropriately, are my words deserved of harassing another member for? Reported for inappropriate behaviour & unprovoked hostility.

I agree completely...

Shovelling out half baked DLC on an engine that is clearly still in BETA has me thinking of doing the same... I don't mind BETA testing the incomplete physics package as long as they take bug fixing seriously... But they don't even put the time into their DLC releases to make sure they work properly... Despite a long dev post saying they were focussing on making better updates...

But now with the pit stop errors getting worse and the green lights being different for different drivers on top of the mass disconnects and other garbage the MP throws at you... It's just not worth jumping through the hoops... And that's if you can ride the defaults to never deal with the set up bugs ruining your race...

Offline it's alright if you don't mind running as a garage 56 entrant in a spec series race... Tyre wear, fuel use and damage are all different for the AIs compared to the player...

Laughing so hard at Forza Motorsport right now.

Maybe next December their game might actually work properly.

But at least they've taken their tyres seriously... That tyre model upgrade will have a lot of gamer racers looking for an easier option... Luckily there's one with just as many bugs for them to use that also has good eye candy...

Forza is still not worth spending a lot of time in due to it's lack of other key simulation features to me, but I haven't really been a fan of car collection games anyway...

Best guess is its a mental illness or perhaps a mania, Something along the lines of the dancing plague from the middle ages. Less deadly but still as perplexing.

Seems to share a common trigger of attaching themselves emotionally to AMS2 and then feeling rejected when it wasn't the Disney princess they fell in love with.

Still, it gives them something to anchor their personality onto, Imagine how empty they would be without that hurt to motivate them.
