rFactor 2's Quarterly Content Release and UI Refresh Out Now

rFactor 2 Quarterly Content Release 01.jpg
An update to rFactor 2 is live now on Steam, and the sim now welcomes four new pieces of content.

Studio 397's social media has kept us busy over the past weeks with the implementation of a new user interface and teasers of upcoming content. That content is now live on Steam for purchase, and the UI has been given an update.

The rapid-fire nature of the content release is part of a new strategy from Studio 397 and Motorsport Games for rFactor 2. Rather than release each bit of new content as it is becomes ready for release, there will be quarterly releases of multiple projects the team has been working on.

The four pieces of content welcomed this quarter include three new cars and a racing circuit. The first and perhaps most notable release is the Dallara IR18 INDYCAR. Studio 397 has bundled all of the teams, drivers and liveries from the 2021 NTT INDYCAR Series for this release.

Along with the INDYCAR, another impactful piece of content released today was Daytona International Speedway. This track has seen a recent boost in popularity in sim racing, with Automobilista 2 and iRacing already having official versions of the circuit, plus a popular mod for Assetto Corsa and an upcoming appearance in Gran Turismo 7.

Two more cars to join the sim this quarter are the Ligier JS P320 and BMW M4 GT3. The former joins a Norma competitor in the LMP3 class, and the latter helps fill out the GT3 class. If you've yet to try the LMP3 class in this title, you may enjoy the ease of use of the car thanks to its aero package and low, wide stance. The BMW has proven to be a popular choice of car in Assetto Corsa Competizione, and should find itself many fans in rF2.

With so many new choices now on offer in rFactor 2, it may be tough to decide what to purchase. If you've bought and experienced any of the four new pieces of content, let us know your thoughts below in the comments.

iracing has taught us that a good online system brings people!
I'm sorry if I prefer to run against humans than stupid AIs, but stop poluting with the same request every time when you know very well that S397 said many times that AI was not the priority, and coming here is useless (except for haters who have only that to do, we know them now, always the same ones), look at all the rF2 threads that are poluted and go to fights... after a while it's enough...

They broke it... at least give us the previous version that was much better!

If you want to race with people, then do what you like than shitting on the people who are complaining about the garbage AI. It is a long standing bug in this game that they never bothered to fix which is exactly why people are complaining.

not to me and certainly not here...

it's incredible how toxic is the people in these forums, half of the comments are just pure hate.
Can't help thinking that's a bit of an exaggeration, yes the discussion is robust and passions run hot and can sometimes seem toxic but hate I would hope not
However it's a timely reminder of how these threads can appear to others and that we should think before we post and try and respectful of other opinions.

Well, by now it is clear devs wont work on ai anymore. No ai = no installation = no buy content. Bb studio whatever
Seeya Boby, I understand, but just want to leave you with this thought. They have never said they won't eventually work on the AI, it is just very far down the priority list. We keep hoping, someday!

"Oh it does, its called an online league!" (Did I capture the pretentiousness of the fanboys accurately?)

The other response is "there's a spreadsheet out there where you can do it yourself..."

I'm starting to find it a massive slap in the face that providing a credible racing experience is neglected at best, and considered a waste at worst. If the dev is telling me that the only way to simulate the rest of what a driver has to consider in the cockpit is by finding 20 other random folks of similar talent who seek the same, then that software is a driving sim, not a RACING sim.
Oh, I was meant to say that I wish they had a championship for single-player mode.

RF2 always had and will always have die hard fans. Few years ago there where lot of them but now not so much. The last few post discussions here on RD can be used as benchmark. In the past they stood againts any brave guy pointing what's wrong with the sim and what could be improved. Seems that most of those brave guys have been right. To verify just go to any forum topic talking about Rf2 few years ago. Yes RF2 guys are making some effort but nothing new as it's always been the same move, add some content and barely touch the deep and core issues of the sim. AMS2 fans are exactly doing the same thing and the community reaction is exactly the same but the big difference is AMS2 got the thunderstorm reactions in less than one year. With Rf2 it took more than 5 years. Lucky boy!!! Anyway It's normal that AMS2 and RF2 are now fighting against each other at the bottom which would be unimaginable few years ago for RF2 the prestigious one. Imho it's time for RF2 to reboot and try to do things differently with RF3. Rf2 is not a dead horse but a horse that will never run again, just walk...

For me rf2 is the best sim for VR. *Any* of the following and ill buy some content again:

* FFB jolt bug on restart fixed
* Viable online competition system with people to race and ability to join anytime before race session and signups and website and rating (see LFM)
* Decent offline opponent selection system in UI
* New HUD
* Better AI

Crashes could be your computer needs a clean or the computer itself which happens. However the track also may need an optimization or something.

I would try to get to the bottom of those crashes.

Does it even happen when you press R mid-race? to pull up the replay

If you do not want to go to that level then check to see if replays are not on ultra/exact whatever it is, lower the replay accuracy. Maybe people will not notice on your videos :)
Hi thx for your reply !
I think it is depending on the new Daytona track. Tested the replay with other tracks e.g. Sebring and performance of replays is ok, even with full quality. Issue with the wheel could be solved by completely removing the wheel config from the game and re-configuring it including FFB settings etc.

Replays of the new Daytona track have still some performance issues.

That's been the issue with rF2 for years; we wait for fixes which may or may not ever occur including for paid DLC.

I'd hate to be a new user, hyped to play rF2, loading up the single player and being stung by AI issues, FCY issues etc. The user seeks help on forums and be informed whilst you want to use feature X, Y & Z you'll need to turn them off because they are unfinished or broken with no ETA for a fix.

Is this the user experience MSG and S397 want for players? rF2 and its players deserve better.

People state single player doesn't matter yet the biggest name in online sim racing - iRacing - is making AI for its sim for players to race against.

I bet single players make up as much of the userbase as online players across all sims, save for iRacing at the moment, so both aspects in a sim are important.

I'm glad a working modern looking UI was released after years of waiting (to an OTT announcement) and the recent car and track additions look great. As an 'offline' racer, I can't get excited until fixes come to restore the single player experience.

I hope for S397 and MSG their push to become a eSports platform of choice pans out.

RF2 seems to have a problem finding it’s “place” in the current sim racing market

. It spent a bunch of time over the last 2years focusing on the Competition System for online racing, a battle its probably already lost to ACC, iRacing and now Raceroom. It‘s tried to attract new users by giving the game a new user interface but word of mouth about the wider issues with the game wont help getting new players in. Then the things that the long term player base have issues with either don’t seem to be being addressed or seem a long way off.

I like RF2, I’m still enjoying the way alot of the cars drive and as an offline racer doing 20 to 30 minute races it still has some track and car combos that can work even with the flakey AI. However these days as AMS2 and Raceroom keep improving I‘m less likely to fire up RF2.

It took a very long time for me to make the switch from rFactor to rF2. rF2 was just disappointing in different ways. Some time ago there suddenly was a new user interface which should be better but was terrible. This, and the very long loadingtimes for the game to start and a track to load made me not using rF2 very much, something like 15 minutes in a month. When starting using Assetto Corsa I was happy with the CM user interface and the stunning graphics, but driving physics and force feedback was very decent but not really good.
Now, with the latest user interface and faster loading times, rF2 is certainly back for me. I feels like a new racing game. Graphics are not the same as Assetto Corsa, but the driving physics and the force feedback are really great. I tried the F1 1975 mod from the Steam Workshop and could not stop driving anymore. This was the best simracing experience in years!
