What Does Your Dream Sim Look Like?

Everyone has different opinions. Everyone has different tastes. Everyone has the free decision to do what they want. We decided to race virtually. That is what binds us together. But what would you do within this niche we all belong to if you could design your favourite sim by any criteria?

Option 1: The Dream Already Became Reality

With the grand amount of sim racing titles out there, it would be amiss to think that nobody has found their optimum so far.

Be it any of the currently still serviced titles like Assetto Corsa Competizione, iRacing, rFactor 2, RaceRoom or Automobilista 2 or something a bit more weathered.

Assetto Corsa is still relevant, to some extent even titles like rFactor 1 or Automobilista 1 still are. Or if we're going a bit further back, many people to this day swear on their NASCAR Racing 2003.

Fact of the matter is that many possibilities are out there, and you might have found your favourite already. If so, what game have you found that ticks all your boxes?

Option 2: The Dream is Becoming a Reality

Many games out there keep on improving, be it rFactor 2 with the resource influx from Motorsport Games or Automobilsta 2 with its always-improving physics model.

But then there are the announcements of upcoming titles like Rennsport and Assetto Corsa 2 that keep people interested, more or less.

The point is there are many games in development that might scratch an itch. Is there anything coming up that you really look forward to?

Option 3: The Dream is Just a Dream

So here's my dream.

A game without any monetisation in which I can live out the management side of racing. Also, race from time to time. I want perfect physics for that, full weather support, 24-hour day-night cycle. All race tracks in the world and all racing cars in the world. All BOP'd correctly. Also mixed reality support. Also Bentley Speed 8 LMP. NEED the Bentley Speed 8.

But let's stay realistic. That ain't happening.

So if the other options weren't fulfilling, what would be your dream-dream game?

Just give BeamNG.drive more support and its own category here in RD.

Alternatively here is my dream racing game.

The game starts in 1960 and you buy a car to race with. You enter the car into races to earn money to upgrade your car or buy additional cars. Like in real life and unlike in other GT-style games like Gran Turismo, some races restrict or outright prohibit certain upgrades. Speaking of upgrades you can apply homologation kits like in Gran Turismo 1 & 2, or upgrade it manually. Beginning in 1968 you can sign sponsorship deals like in Race Driver GRID, and like in RDG licenses are earned on merit instead of tests.

Also this will be my theoretical racing sim's main selling point: BeamNG-style soft-body physics.

My dream simulator is an hybrid of openworld and track racing
You have a mix of road and racing cars you use on different surfaces
You can travel from your home to the track with your road car and then you jump on your racing car and race on the track
A mix of AC/ACC and ETS/ATS

Coming from a PS5 I quite liked the Gran Turismo concept with the challenges, licences and variety of races. As well as the option to purchase cars (shouldn’t have got rid of the option to sell them also).

Although ACC feels and looks amazing, it’s so much more linear.

acctually i'd love to have Grand Prix 2 Remastered with up to date Graphic and Physics and AI.

What i miss the most is a good Simulation like N2003 or Grand Prix Legends who covers a full serie with all the Program like Practice, Drivernames, Liveries, Tracks etc. all in the same and good quality.

I often get lost in the amount of different opportunities. And if you want to recreat the F1 1967 with AC you have a lot of different mods and tracks and AI lines and its not fun...

RF2 physics and FFB
AMS Graphics
AC Shader Mod rain
RRE Engine sounds
A one off cost to buy cars and tracks but with scheduled races and seasons like iRacing without the subscription.

well, it must not repeat itself, have all the cars might want, ultimate physics, support all types of controllers, support for MODS, tracks in reverse so the content can double, no sequels unless engine updates and when updating add the same content, no greedy devs, dedicated online servers support or more like the first GRID where you could join a race made by someone and GRID was the first game to have reversed tracks!

A rally based game but with very large content. Not just only the most popular cars.
I want to drive the Octavia wrc in Monte Carlo, a Saab 99 in Sweden or a Chevette in Wales.

Of course without having to buy most of tha content on DLC.

With a career/championnship mode similar to DR2.0.
And RR audio.

On the racing side of the dream simulator, I want to be able to start a guided coaching program where, with the help of the simulator, you go through the driving instruction. The virtual teacher teaches me. There is also a race engineer in the simulator who can adjust the car according to my instructions. I can speak to virtual engineer. Always on VR, of course! With VR glasses that have unlimited FOV, so that it feels like I don't have VR HMD on.

I want all tracks and roads to be modeled after all bumps, bounces, holes and different roughnesses accordingly. It should have direct support for motion sim platforms. With the DreamSim I'm able to drive in ordinary cars of my choosing, freely on all roads on different continents. I want to be able to drive even in a snowstorm in the dark.

With the dream simulator I should be able to drive along the autobahn among other virtual traffic. I would like to be able to choose the most capable SUV in the world, ride it in Dubai and from there just move on to driving on the dunes. The graphics have to look like I'm really there. No arcade graphics and no artificial worlds. No bitmaps with 2D face. Racing must have all classes and all cars, but with a minimum power of 0.25 hp/kg. Tracks from all continents. There wuold be also ice tracks.

Simulators should have support for FFB brakes and FFB pedals should be available. Applies to current and old (new electric cars will soon have the same pedals as gamers now, there are no hydraulic brakes). I want to be able to connect different roads and tracks in the same ride so that Fonteny continues straight as Norshleife, transforms and continues it as Road Atlantana and transforms into Pacific Cost Highway. Sometimes there will be an Autobahn and sometimes we will be on the mountains. The scenery changes accordingly.

Dream mode on ; A world mixing Forza horizon and Flight simulator, with tracks in the original place the phisyc of beamNG you can arrive to the circuit by car plane moto walking. In the circuit something like automibilista2 but with mods.

- The content of Project CARS 2
- The graphics and physics model of Assetto Corsa Competizione
- The accesibility and ease of gameplay of Automobilista games
- The ability to mod / add content seen in Assetto Corsa and Automobilista titles

All of the present and past, but still useable, sim options are somehow, one way or the other so limited, that at this time none can be even remotely close to be considered a dream sim.
None can even be used as the one. To be fulfilled as a simmer, we need to use many. But even if we could have one sim with all the best features we prefer, it still would not be a dream sim.
The technology will need to advance a lot on so many level before we can even hope to have a dream sim.
What we have are video game attempting, with more or less success, to simulate what driving/racing cars is like.
VR, in some titles helps but all look fake.
DD wheels is also helping, but FFB is so primitive that a total rework is an absolut must.
All the g.forces and feeling the physic, even with poor attempts from some motion options feels nothing like the real thing.
So much needs to happen, better enjoy as much as possible, the little we have and patiently wait.

1. Standard Graphics and Physics Engine built on collaboration and in constant development. Advanced tyre and track tools for studio use.
Standard car and track for testing purpose, so to better understand different studio approach, tweaking, etc.

2. Separate versions for PRO and AMA, can buy and use both versions however you need to meet PRO minimum requirements which would be absolutely no aids, forced in car, no virtual mirrors or anything else "arcade" no matter how slight.

3. Unique content from all studios involved.
