2011 World Touring Car Championship

So now that was incredibly boring again :( If the Chevy's don't get a huge amount of penalty weight in the coming races I am not even bothered to turn the tv on anymore.

Can't blame Chevrolet really, they do a great job as a team and are performing fantastic, but for the series this is really bad with one dominating works team and the rest of the field consisting of good willing privateers that just don't have the money neither the material to race for a victory.

Yeah i agree. Dont see why they are happy all the time. Sure they won. But is always a bad taste win imo.
Like you win a race with a LMP car in a GT field. Sure you won. But it isnt really winning.

Don't forguet Huff, he attacked everyone everywhere... and he will got a penalty probably.

This race remembered me the Macau Race07 races with everybody defending into the walls :)

Alain Menu pocketed his third victory of the season, while his team-mates Yvan Muller and Rob Huff had a race-long fight over second place in the first race of the weekend.
After setting pole position on Saturday, the Swiss racer took a perfect start and the lead for good; in the following laps he took advantage of the Muller vs Huff duel to build up a gap, which put him in the position to keep a more cautious pace in the final laps.
The three Chevrolet cars left the rest of the field behind. Tiago Monteiro won the fight with his SUNRED fellow driver Gabriele Tarquini and secured fourth place in front of his home crowd.
Tom Coronel and Robert Dahlgren finished in sixth and seventh respectively, while Norbert Michelisz won the Yokohama Trophy from Michel Nykjær and Stefano D’Aste who made a brilliant comeback to the championship.

Rob Huff won the second race in Porto that was full of action and excited the Portuguese fans who were cheering for Tiago Monteiro on his run for a well deserved podium result.
The first two laps took the breath away, as WTCC comebacker Stefano D’Aste tried all his best – and even more – to keep the Chevrolet cars of Yvan Muller and Huff behind.
This did not last long and to add insult to injury D’Aste lost a possible podium position when he was given a drive through because the front wheels of his car were outside of the pole position grid box at the start.
Eventually Huff stole the lead from Muller with a risky manoeuvre that resulted in a tangle that the stewards judged as a normal race incident.
Monteiro won the battle for third place, managing to keep Norbert Michelisz – who claimed another victory in the Yokohama Trophy – and Tom Coronel at bay. The Portuguese racer also gave the first podium finish to the SUNRED 1.6L turbo car.

7 Jul 2011The BMW 320 TC and Volvo C30 cars will be granted a weight reduction for the next WTCC event at Donington Park.

According to the calculation of the compensation weight based on the lap times set in the three previous events (Hungary, Czech Republic and Portugal) the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T will be carrying again the maximum weight of 40 extra kilos.

The BMW 320 TC cars will be 20 kilos lighter, 10 kg less than in Porto, while the compensation weight is applied for the first time to the Volvo, after the Swedish car ran with 40kg of extra weight in Brno and Porto, the first two events in which it was fitted with the new 1.6-litre turbo engine. Thus Dahlgren’s Volvo, just like all the other cars – SUNRED SR León 1.6T and Fabiani’s BMW 320si – will benefit from a 20kg reduction on its maximum weight.

Compensation weight Donington Park

+ 40 kg Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T
+ 20 kg BMW 320 TC
- 20 kg BMW 320 si, SUNRED SR León 1.6T, Volvo C30 Drive

Hopefully this will start closing the gap in the field we have seen growing over the recent events.

I do feel sorry for BMW, the WTCC have allowed the tryes to be more suitable for the fwd which means that if its not perfect conditions the BMW suffer from not being able to get heat into the tryes. So i dont know if taking weight of the car will make a big difference. But its a start,

The GP loop was due to be part of the new abandoned F1 circuit, so it didn't get removed.

It's a boring section - the single chicane and dash for the finish line is a much better end, the two tight corners of the GP layout are so slow - it's un necessary.

Agreed.

Donington is almost always one of the most exciting meeting in BTCC, so hopefully we get a bit more action than usual.
