Having spent the day shaking down their new Formula One car, Alfa Romeo Racing are excited for their prospects in the year ahead.
Star driver Kimi Räikkönen was the first driver to sample the new car this season, the 39-year-old ex-Ferrari World Champion managing to put 33 laps on the machine around the 2.997km Fiorano Circuit, before the 100km filming day mileage restrictions would prevent any further running for the day.
“The focus of our work today was on aerodynamic, set-up and cooling checks. We ran for a total of 33 laps and will use our data to establish how the new regulations will affect the behaviour of our car," said new Technical Director Simone Resta
“The next two weeks which we will spend in Barcelona will be busy and will concentrate on proving the car’s reliability and performance.” the former Ferrari man added.
Having reportedly suffered no major setbacks during the first laps with the car, Alfa Romeo Racing are hopeful that the year ahead will see a continued improvement for the popular midfield squad - no doubt aided by the prestige and experience of Räikkönen and raw talent of fellow new signing Antonio Giovinazzi in the second seat.“The next two weeks which we will spend in Barcelona will be busy and will concentrate on proving the car’s reliability and performance.” the former Ferrari man added.
“We ran the 2019 car for the first time and were able to assess the progress we have made in our development ahead of the first tests in Barcelona next week," said CEO Frédéric Vasseur.
“The whole team is pushing to start the season with the best possible base. Our drivers and crew are motivated, and we look forward to heading into the championship and delivering a strong performance.”
