Changeable weather = always sunny day

Hi~
The condition and forecast are always sunny when I set weather to "changeable".
Do you know how to meet a rainy condition or forecast when I set weather to "changeable"?
Thank you very much.

Choose a track in a country where the "chances" of rain are greater. ;)

Each .gdb track has a parameter Average Rain= x,xx
Examples:
Spa = 0.3 ... this means 1 chance of rain on 3
Oschersleben = 0.4
Donington = 0.5 1 chance of rain on 2
Dubai = 0.0 .... you will have no rain.
Daytona = 0.1 ... 1 chance of rain on 10

Nothing forbids you to modify this number ( make it higher ) .... and save the file if you wish.
At the start, those rain possibilities are done according to the world region where they are situated.

NB: there's also a possibility to create your own weather file.

In fact, there's more than 1 line for this, but you surely already noticed it:

Spa example:
// Locality
Region = Central
Average rain = 0.3
RainLightScale = 0.85
RainFogScale = 0.95
RainFogColourScale = 0.15
RainCloudScale = 1.0

Some modded tracks have those lines, some not.
For those tracks without those lines, have a look at a track of the same region .... and just copy those lines to paste them in the track gdb.... so you'll have something coherent.

NB Sometimes ... some are strange like another older Spa:
// Locality
Region = South

I'd wish sometimes we were in that south ... living near Spa ! :roflmao: ....

NB: nearly sure the "South" here was chosen for another reason than rain.

Jempy:
Yes, I do copy THOSE lines that under "// Locality".
Would you tell me what the "Region = central or south" mean.
Is it something like "Central" or "South" of northern hemisphere?
If so, what it will be if the track was located on Australia?

I tell you frankly what the "Region = central or south" mean.

It means distance from Equator.
It is just different set of skies where the South is a little more tropical looking and Nord the more gray with central between.
You can use any of them you like.

Weather is also controlled by the weather.txt file.
From an old NoGrip thread:
"Weather files explained
There are several Weather Generator programs available in the GTR2 download section.
This post is just to explain the file format for anyone interested in the subject.
The file is called WEATHER.TXT
and lives in your PnG2\UserData\LOG folder
or in your PnG2\UserData\LOG_DEDICATED for a server

You have to set it's READ ONLY file attribute, before starting GTR2 or it will be overwritten.

In the game menus you set the Weather to "Changeable"

Overview of the file
there's a section in curly brackets for each session

Weather{
Testday {Conditions=67.00..........}
Practice1 {Conditions=67.00..........}
Practice2 {Conditions=50.00..........}
Qualify1 {Conditions=67.00..........}
Qualify2 {Conditions=67.00..........}
Warmup {Conditions=67.00..........}
Race {Conditions=67.00..........}
}
Overview of a Session
first five lines describe conditions at minute 00.000
Thereafter you can choose Conditions and air temp for any timestamp.

Race{
Conditions =67.00 - conditions at the start
OnPathWetness =0.00 - racing line wetness
OffPathWetness =0.00 - off racing line wetness
AmbientTemp =11.00 - air temperature in degrees C
TrackTemp =11.00 - track temperature in degrees C
Minute=3.50 {Conditions=67.00 AmbientTemp=11.00} - looks cloudy
Minute=5.00 {Conditions=75.00 AmbientTemp=11.00} - peak of rain shower
Minute=10.00 {Conditions=70.00 AmbientTemp=11.00} - rain stops
Minute=15.00 {Conditions=60.00 AmbientTemp=11.00} - Sunny and clouds
.
.
.
}
Conditions=nnn.nn
0 -> 70: goes from sunny to totally cloudy
70 -> 90: goes from light rain to heavy rain
90 -> 100: thunderstorms
The initial wetness of the track is set by these two
OnPathWetness=nnn.nn - on the racing line
OffPathWetness=nnn.nn - off racing line
00.00 = Dry
00.01 -> 40.00 = Wet from Light rain
40.01 -> 75.00 = Wet from Heavy rain
75.01 -> 100 = Wet from Thunderstorms

If they are not already available here, I could upload these utilities:
Weather Generator v2_3 by ArtOfDrifting.zip
Autosim Weather Generator v1_0 by alexz.zip
Changing weather patch - unified v1_2 by jtsn.zip (for server use)

Perfectly right, jgf :thumbsup:
Mostly, I was using Autosim Weather Generator as its visual settings page for weather is very easy and intuitive ... ( "was" just because I'd need more time to drive GTR2 ).

Just remembering not to use Time Acceleration in game session is very important in order not to spoil the process of this weather file.

NB: by the way, this tool may also be applied to GTR Evo - Race07 with some adjustments. ;)
