Down Shift Protection

Can someone explain to me why this exists?

I find it incredibly annoying. Is there any way to disable it?

Like in RL racing cars there is a down shift protection so you protect your motor.
You have to downshift when the revs are correct.
And no there is no way to disable it. Its the same in other sims too.
You get used to it after a while, just downshift after braking.
