AC DRM Revival @ Circuit de la Sarthe (Le Mans) - Sat 23Jun18

Assetto Corsa Racing Club event

The wait is over and now it's time to have a Revival. With the release of the great work from the DRM Modding Team we get to experience these fire breathing beasts with giant turbos, a lot of lag, accelerators that feel like detonators and the sound of the blow off valves huffing a puffing themselves to death.

In celebrating the most famous sportscar race, Le Mans, we'll be taking these beasts to Circuit de la Sarthe. Going down Mulsanne with the Porsche 935 K3 and BMW M1 Turbo is going to be seriously fast!

The race will be 75 minutes with a mandatory pitstop between 5 and 70 minutes.

RaceDepartment.com DRM Revival Practice #38 server will be provided.
Drivers, since this is a multi manufacturer event, please have your car choice in by Thursday 17:00 EDT | 21:00 GMT | 07:00 AEST to guarantee your car selection so we can finalize the server. Late sign up get what's left on a first come first served basis. Thank you for understanding.
A message to all Drivers
If you run off track, you have to check and see that its clear before you re-enter the track. Do not just keep the gas pinned and pull back on track.
When entering the track from the pits stay off the racing line until you are up to speed and do not race on your out lap. Let other drivers by in qualifying.
On re-entering the track stay off the racing line until you are up to race speed and do not block any fast approaching car. Remember, you've made the mistake by going off so let them by cleanly.
Golden Rule
  1. Be 100% sure it's not your fault and just carry on like nothing happened and take the risk of being banned for 30 days.
  2. Play on the safe side and wait for the affected drivers, knowing 100% sure you will not get a ban.
Track limits
  1. No more than 2 wheels over the white/yellow line without a complete lift of the gas please if it is safe to do so.
You will be penalized if you break our rules
Note: Please use your full real name in teamspeak. Not doing so may result in you being kicked from the server if an admin cannot identify you as a premium member.

@Celtic Pharaoh why the Lancia is listed only in division 2?
The Lancia Beta Montecarlo was classified in Div 2 as of its small displacement.

The DRM division regulation was a bit complicate and apparently back then already topic of heated discussions aiming to replace the division system with something easier and more clear.
They did not succeed to come up with a new regulation and instead a change in regulation allowed basically both Div 1 and Div 2 entries to become Champion if they collected the most points in their respective divisions - this is how Lancia managed to:

"Lancia went on to win the 1979 World Championship for Makes (under 2-litre class), overall for 1980 World Championship for Makes and 1981 World Endurance Championship for Makes."

Here is a great read about the Lancia (mostly in German but Google Translate if not accurate should make for an interesting read nonetheless with some great photos to boot:

http://www.lancianews.com/site/archiv/2017/lancia-beta-montecarlo-turbo-dtm-1980-und-1981/

EDIT: for all undecided who may not know these cars well: racing at the Circuit de la Sarthe, none of the Div 2 cars will be able to run for an outright win against the Div 1 cars as of the very long straights at Le Mans. IT would be great though if we get a nice turnout with both divisions properly represented and each Division could have their own race - it is Multiclass in a sense although the complex regulations in the DRM back then suggested both divisions racing about the same trophies after all.

Too bad I only see this little interview of Derek Bell now (would have fitted spot on into the LE Mans races we had on Fri + Sat before the actual 24h race) - he is talking about the racing at the old Le Mans track and specifically about his experience with the Porsche 917 long tail and the 962.

Derek Bell is also one of the few people who make an almost spot on impression of Norbert Singer ;-)

@Glaurung @Dirk Steffen I contacted the DRM team and they replied and clarified:
"
Your are right with the clarification, only the LANCIA is not 100% correct.

Two version exist from the lancia, one 1.499 ccm and one with 1775 ccm for DIV 1.

Our Lancia will be started in the DIV 1.

The Division 1 have turbo charge engine from 1.5 to 4.0

The Division 2 have turbo charge engine up to 1.499 ccm

Hope, the information helps.

Good look for your event and a big starting grid."

@Dirk Steffen the Lancia Beta Montecarlo raced mainly in Div. 2 being dominant, but existed also a Div. 1 version that raced in 1980 winning 3 races in this division.
I'm not 100% sure but I think we have both versions in the DRM pack.

… from the article I linked:

“The Beta Montecarlo Turbo Group 5 was Lancia’s answer to the Porsche 935. With a 1.4L Turbo engine producing 470bhp in the later seasons. Despite the 935 having 800 bhp, the Lancia went on to beat the 935 on numerous occasions in 1980 like the 1-2 finishes at Brands Hatch, Mugello and Watkins Glen. Abarth developed a larger engine for the 1981 season to chase down the much more powerful Porsche’s. The new engine was upgraded to a 1.7l which was twin turbocharged to 520 bhp. Unfortunatly this version was never fully developed as Lancia’s focus shifted towards the new Group C-regulations that would come into force in 1982. Lancia went on to win the 1979 World Championship for Makes (under 2-litre class), overall for 1980 World Championship for Makes and 1981 World Endurance Championship for Makes. This dominating fashion has made the Beta Montecarlo Turbo Group 5 one of the greatest Lancia racing cars.”

There were two versions of the Lancia - as the source states the 1.4 liter version (Division 1) was the initial development of the car and their Division 2 entry never as fully developed as Lancia switched focus towards the new Group C series with their Lancia LC2 prototype for the upcoming season.

Here is another really good source with infos about the cars, classifications of all DRM races for some good info - check the entire site for the races and background info - one can spend hours on that site alone ;-)

http://touringcarracing.net/Pages/DRM part 2.html

The mod does come with two versions of the Lancia - maybe @Celtic Pharaoh can include the one in the race you prefer?

EDIT: @Celtic Pharaoh Ninja

So the Lancia in the DRM mod is the late Div 1 1.7 liter version then ;-)
