FM6 Forza Motorsport 6: Apex - Coming To Windows 10

Forza Motorsport, Microsoft's long time Xbox exclusive sim racing series is about to make its way over to PC gaming in an attempt expand Windows 10 gaming repertoire.

Rumours of the arrival of Forza on PC had been floating around the internet for the last few weeks, however Microsoft confirmed that the re-titled 'Forza Motorsport 6: Apex' will be arriving on Windows 10 this spring.

This will mark the first time that Forza has stepped away from Microsoft's console range, however it is certainly questionable how well Forza would fair against the wider range of racing simulators that PC already has at it's disposal. Add to that the fact that the Windows 10 version will be released as a slimmed down, freeware gaming experience, it's unlikely to make a huge drop in the ocean. While some rumors contest that the game will lack wheel support on launch, we have so far been unable to reach Microsoft for confirmation.

Forza Motorsport 6: Apex will feature 20 different tracks across six locations including Brands Hatch, Spa Francorchamps, Yas Marina, Sebring International Raceway, the Top Gear Test Track and Rio de Janeiro, with night and wet-weather variants also being included. However, there is no word as to how large the range of cars available will be.

Apex also includes a new objective and scoring system, challenging players to compare their scores with friends, as well as introducing a slightly altered career mode known as the 'Showcase Tour', which will feature 12 events.

Certainly those who enjoy the series might have hoped for a straight console to PC port. However confirmation that all future Xbox One releases will also be released on PC will give players hope that they will receive the full Forza experience on the release of Forza Motorsport 7.

Selective reading? "Lack wheel support on launch"

I think wheel support on launch would be ideal though. Like hell, even an arcade game like Need for Speed will have wheel support! :p

I will probably move to the W10 ecosystem before the free offer ends, so might have a look at this FM6 Apex game. According to other places on the interwebs, cars can be bought through microtransactions or won through events.

Its good that it might come after launch, but its a shame it is not included at launch nevertheless future Forza's on PC is good news :) I feel Forza is a great game for middle ground if you want to race you can and if you want to upgrade, paint and tune cars with your friends and just have a laugh its the perfect platform to do so. Just one wish is that they give you the option to turn hands or wheel off or even just make them rotate past the current measly degrees.

Might help the wheel debate.

Despite all of the features it does pack into the package, the elephant in the room is the lack of wheel support at launch. Wheel support is important to the Turn 10 team, but it's something of a chicken-and-the-egg problem for them at the moment due to UWP being so new. The rep showing off the demo said that part of the goal behind creating Apex was so that peripheral manufacturers would have something to develop against.

"We're using [Forza Motorsport 6: Apex] to make UWP and DX12 better," the Turn 10 rep said. "The goal is to make UMP the racing developer's platform of choice."

So that would suggest it'll be upto the wheel manufacturers to come up with drivers. I'm pretty sure Thomas, for example, at Fanatec will be more than happy to provide what is needed. So I have hope that it may even be possible for wheel support at launch. I also hope that my 40" triples will be useful come launch.

Wow, I don't think I've gone from excited about a game to disappointment faster then a F1 car brakes, but there we go, Microsoft found a way.

F2P and no wheel support at launch means I'm giving it a miss, had it been actual Forza 6 I would've bought the hell out of it since PC side of things is in desperate need of a great arcade racer.

I smell about the same policy as R3E and iRacing has for an example. Free with a limited content and pay to enlarge the content :D

So far we have learned there is nothing for free without having some advantages for M$ :D

That's the thing, I already have R3E and IRacing, they're great sims. I wanted Forza for it's campaign and car porn. And it seems it's not going to deliver.
