Icons keep moving back when PC restarted

All, not a big issue but a curious one.

I tried to organise the desktop icons into easily accessed groups, to cut down on the time needed to scan through them all to try and find a particular program. However every time I restart the PC, they have moved back to their original positions (not all autoarranged at the left).

I have auto arrange unchecked, not sure what else could be doing this

Cheers

Very strange issue.. When moving icons, always hit F5. :) If not Ok..
Try to switch to another Windows User (activate Guest Account).
Make some shortcuts on the New Desktop.
Rearrange..
* hit F5 = save / update* Log Out
& In again.
See if icons is sticky..

So even though the icons were not auto arranged, I checked the autoarrange and align icons to grid, let it do its thing, then re-unchecked and tried again, and this time it worked. Not sure why, but seems cycling it unlocked whatever it was blocking

Cheers for the help

Sometimes this happens when changing desktop resolution, for example, when playing certain games. Windows rearrranges the icons so they don't disappear off the edge of the smaller desktop, but fails to restore their previous positions when exiting the game and returning to the desktop.
