I had a very close call with fire at one o'clock this morning and it could happen to anybody with modern electronics. It involves micro usb cables. What is very important to know here is that this fire was starting from the UNATTACHED small end of the micro usb cable while just laying there on a pad of paper! The other end of the cord was plugged into an adapter which was plugged into a 12 volt socket in my motorhome. The adapter and socket were cold. This was clearly a sudden short in the other end of the cord that normally gets plugged into devices for charging or data transfer. The cord involved is about six feet long and gives every appearance of being of reasonable quality. It even has a velcro strap attached to be able to wrap the cord up neatly. I am not normally up at one in the morning. This was a complete lucky fluke that I caught this as it was happening.
