Is a single 16:9 Curved monitor is worth it for extra immersion?

Hi
I don't have big bucks to spend, so was considering getting a Curved 27 inch samsung monitor.
I currently use a 24 inch flat screen, and I would like to see more out of the side windows.
But I guess a single 27 inch screen would not give me anymore side view anyway, just curve the same image a bit.
Is it even worth it?
Thanks

I suspect not, you'll need 3 of them to get what you need. Or you go the VR route, which imo is better immersion and is cheaper overall.

On a 16:9? It would look just as odd as on a flat screen. Those curves are really subtle, especially on a 27". If you want to see more, go for 21:9, you can get some cheap but decent ones in 2560x1080. A 34" 21:9 has the height of a 27" 16:9, but with approximately 30-33% added width. Instead of wasting money on the curved feature, go for bigger size, bigger ratio or higher refresh rate.

But for immersion, I agree with the others before me. While I love my 34" 21:9 fitted on my cockpit, it can't be compared to a triple setup. For me it was the only option due to space constraints.

Get the 32" AOC AGON 144hz curved monitor.
It's cheap and the high refresh rate alone is worth it.. it's got a decent curve on it but it won't improve your FOV.. I run 3 of them as triples but would certainly use this monitor if I was only running a single..

@sjb266 - yes you are right...Triple Curved are the best solution and best thing ever for SimRacers, that's why every SimRacer has triple curved screens and why all the proper rigs and cockpits have triple screens setup.

Triple 34-35” (21:9) vs. triple 27” (16:9):

Pros:
  • More cockpit room (eyes to screen increases from about 20” to about 27-28”)
  • 25% less pixels for you GPU to render than 2560x1440 if you choose 2560x1080 monitors

Cons:
  • Reduced vertical FOV (vFOV reduces from 36 to 28 degrees)
  • 35% more pixels for your GPU to render than 2560x1440 if you choose 3440x1440 monitors
once you go 100, 144 or 165Hz you can't and will never go back to 60Hz, the suddenly visible input lag to your eyes will stop you from trying or even testing 60Hz displays.

Well you seem like an expert so i better take notice.. and please tell me more about all the "proper" rigs and cockpits!

Except.. AOC AGON 32" 144hz

The monitors I have are 16:9 1080p.. My vFOV is larger and it renders the same amount of pixels same as my 60hz 27" monitors.. except they refresh twice as quickly..

And before you start on about PPI.. it is not even slightly noticeable in-game..

The OP obviously wants to buy a curved monitor and I think it's a great idea.. The look cool and they look really cool!

Well I don't know..
I didn't mean to start a war in here lol
I basically cannot afford triple set up.
So, what it best. a flat 21:9 or a curved 21:9?

I have a curved 35" monitor, well 2 actually, one for sim racing and the other for desktop gaming. Quite honestly it doesn't matter that much, a curved monitor won't transform your experience, it's more of a gimmick. Focus on high refresh rate and the physical size of the monitor first.

A 27" ultrawide won't be a good experience with sim racing as the vertical height is restrictive. My 35" ultra wide monitor screen height dimensions as a 4:9 27" monitor. So a 34"-35" 21:9 monitor is what you should aim for. Any less then you better just go with a standard 27" screen.

looks good? = yes for sure (as @sjb266 stated)
does it help immersion? = no it doesn't
resolution? = crisp at 1440p yes, for sure.
refresh rate? = 100 or 144 or 165Hz, yes, you will never want to go anything else.

otherwise good luck. if it was me, i would NOT purchase curved screen for SimRacing. (FPS and for other genres yes)

PS: I had triple BenQ XR3501 35”, sold it, got myself 1x Asus PG349Q 34", will use this one for work and decided to order triple Asus PG279Q 27". (just a note, I did understand the discussion about CURVED/ 16:9 or 21:9)

if all fails, just wait for stuff like this to come out if CURVED is something everyone wants:
Samsung CHG90, 49", QLED, 32:9, 3840x1080, VA Panel, 144Hz
