retriving data from a broken USB stick?

My daughter dropped her laptop and the USB drive got damadged and now it isent recognised anymore, i also tried it in my PC. the light on the stick comes on most of the time and can flicker on and off, i manged to gently remove the plastic cover and nothing appears broken or loose so i`m asuming it could just be a broken joint.

I did some googling and found a few sites that can retrive the data but thats going to cost around £90, so was wundering if anyone has any advice on getting it fixed or the data recoved at a resonable cost.

thanks

My college tutor told me about the fuses breaking and taking the fuse off and shortening it sometimes works. I youtubed it and found a sandisk cruzer someone had done it too. Hope this helps.

thanks Adam, shes taking it to collage tomorrow to see if the IT guy there can help. if not i`ll have a look and see if the board has the same layout as that one in the video.
