Studio 397 have released their beautiful laser scanned Circuit de la Sarthe for rFactor 2.

One of the most iconic tracks in world motorsport, this weekend has seen the 87th running of the Le Mans 24 Hour race in France - the centrepiece event of the sportscar racing calendar and the season finale of the 2018/19 FIA World Endurance Championship season.

To mark the big event in style, Studio 397 have released their latest DLC for rFactor 2 - the laser scanned 2018 version of the famous Le Mans circuit!

Available to purchase now from the rFactor 2 Steam Store page for 10.99 eu, the new track is once again an impressive creation from Studio 397 - continuing the recent very high quality track standards achieved by the Dutch development studio.

Alongside the new track comes a brand new update for rFactor 2, one that brings a number of fixes and improvements to the simulation as Studio 397 continue work towards refining and updating this highly regarded simulation. To catch up on the latest changes, check out the new build update notes below...

rF2 Update Notes:

With the track release comes a new build too. As always we advise people to update their dedicated servers and game clients. In fact, Le Mans requires this new build.

rFactor 2 version: 1.1112
Steam Build IDs: 3921932 (client), 3921933 (dedicated server)

Changes:
  • Improved performance logging to be faster and give more information.
  • Fixed skewed driver labels on triple screen multi-view (cockpit and track-side full-screen cams).
  • Removed aggressive threading as it’s not that helpful.
  • Improved timing to help avoid stutters and real-time freezes.
  • Improvements on materials and lighting.
  • Implemented all new ‘digital flags’ – for ‘Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans’.

Here's what Studio 397 have to say about the new release:

Just a few weeks ago, in our latest roadmap, we announced that Le Mans was coming to rFactor 2. Now, on the weekend that the 2019 edition of this famous 24h race is held, as the real cars pass the checkered flag after yet another memorable race, the racing won’t stop! We are proud to announce the release of the Le Mans 24h track, available immediately!

For those of you who can’t wait, here’s the link to the store, where you can buy your copy of the track right now and start driving!

Background
The story of the creation of this iconic track goes all the way back to the days when Studio 397 was founded, almost three years ago now. I guess, when we chose the name of our company we already showed our intention.

Being new to the game obviously meant that we had to first introduce ourselves to the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) and build a relationship with them. Such things always take time. Over the first two years, we met regularly, explained our ideas and plans, and listened to their feedback. In that same time period, we also entered into discussions with various other tracks and car manufacturers and showed that we were serious about making rFactor 2 the most realistic racing simulation for everybody who enjoys the experience of driving race cars. All these things led to a licensing agreement, roughly a year ago, that all parties were happy with.

Just in time too for doing a laser scan of the 2018 track, as obviously Le Mans only exists in this configuration for a couple of weeks a year. With the license in place and the scan in our possession, production work started a little over half a year ago, with us balancing our track team resources at the time between three big tracks, the Nürburgring, already in production at that time after we announced it at SimRacing Expo last year, Monaco and Le Mans.

As with Sebring, our goal was to create the most realistic model of Le Mans possible for any consumer-oriented racing simulation available. By pairing our highly accurate physics with a very detailed road mesh, we have recreated the track in a way that makes you feel every bump and curb out there.

Graphically, we have used our latest shaders on this track. Improvements to our lighting model and materials are still in full swing. So whilst you will find this track already looks gorgeous, it is safe to say we will do an update once everything is finalized later in the year, and we will provide a more in-depth update on this process in one of our upcoming roadmaps.

Well done S397! You guys must be pretty proud of yourselves, you have created 2 of the best tracks in any sim I've played & looking forward to what else you have in store.

Like others, I impatiently wait for the UI/Competition syetm to be introduced so some of the (coding) focus can go back into the core of the game but in the mean time keep up the good work & looking forward to your rendition of the green hell as well as the Tatuus pack. Keep them coming!

I'm not the only one who is disagree with your post, mate...

Like i say. Youre like the ex that wont go away, ive tried leaving it and walking away but youre obssessed with my attention. You cant monopolise me young man, however much you need the validation.
Weve already had a warning.

Keep replying though....im not ignoring you...... "Honest"

And you, carl hungus.... Even though weve never spoken, you know in fact i dont think ive ever seen you write a post....., you seem to want to go through and disagree with every single one of my posts, like some attention seeking 10 year old with an "edgy" lebowski screen name. Indeed it appears it isnt even just mine, you just seemed to have gone a bit from 6 to 12 for me in this thread..

Got a few laps in last night on my rig and loved it. I was surprised also at getting a good solid FPS (run triple 2k's) whereas on Zandvoort for exactly same settings had been struggling (I think I need to revisit testing that).

There's some subtle details that come through on motion that's not obvious on screen like going down the straights sitting left or right of the dividing line you can feel the car roll ever so slightly to the left or the right of the road crown. It's interesting to see how accurate the RF2 physics engine is as when you're rolled slightly on one side or the other you get more lateral g bumps on the corresponding side. I'm sure the GS-5 guys will be having fun in this. Night time is pretty eerie. The Ford Curve/Dunlop Curve/Esses' are all fantastic things in full motion ... you really get into attacking the corners with lots of pitch/roll. I'd be interested from the S397 guys how much they pulled out from the road texture details - I understood from the interview they had to do a little bit to get the mesh data down. Wondering if there would be an option in future for people with the hardware and motion rigs to have a "higher resolution mesh" - we certainly want as much as our hardware can handle (and I don't mind walking away grabbing a coffee/beer while it's loading!)

Never really been a Le Mans guy but definitely going to work on it after this release. Thanks Studio 397 !

Maybe just maybe if folks wouldn't have gone 'Game of Thrones' violent on each other for once, Marcel and his team might have had a chance to pick up genuine critiques of the sim or the circuit, whatever the discrepancies are. For f****s sake,14 pages of skirmishes, lancets, arrows and swords and daggers.

No its not mod related.
This might not be the thread to discuss this, but try slam the gears on the Lola, it will not work. All H patterns cars with a gearbox using dog rings, you can slam the gear with a very tiny lift just to unload the dog, and that is used in many older race H pattern gear boxes.

I'm not saying it perfect or done in way it's not needing a improvement, it are for sure. But there is a difference between mods.

For me the sim racing market place is reaching saturation point. I appreciate that the cost and work involved in creating this laser scanned version is high and that in isolation the track may well be worth the asking price. However it isn't in isolation and there are many competing products around - I simply cannot afford to buy them all and also do not have the time to use them enough to get real value for my money.

So I'm left asking which games offer me the chance to experience them at a sensible cost/time ratio if i want to commit to using many of the sims at the same time. Alternatively I could commit to one or two at a much higher investment price. Personally I prefer the former so I buy in to games like ACC, Dirt Rally, Automobilista and the F1 series. RF2 is a mighty fine sim but personally the wait for the new UI and the variation in quality between the older and new content really put me off.
its a matter of priorities really. If you want cars that feel as close as possible to being correctly simulated then it narrows down which sim to spend on , having most sim software ( not simcade .F1 ) for example myself it lessons the cost you spend on the genre . All a matter of choices we are all lucky to have ..

I fully support the pricing of this DLC, because of two things, my personal opinion that the track is of great quality and will get plenty of hours invested by myself racing the GTE's and Oreca around here. And also the fact that i want to support S397, as there only source of revenue is through these DLC releases which have been fantastic additions to a sim. On top of that, all the enhancements they've implemented since taking over development, and the further enhancements and new features that marcel and the team plan to bring in the future.

Everyone plays these sim racing games for different reason, get a quick fix in a GT car, participating in competitive online, I'm sure there's others like me who love single player experiences too. And I'm grateful we're presented with a variety of racing sims.

Constructive criticism from a community is so key in the development and updates of content for any genre of game and I enjoy reading through people comments.

But, I'm disappointed and embarrassed at members of this sim racing community who cry and moan about little details and continue on with the same rubbish. I'm convinced some of them complain about sims they've not even played in the last 6 months...

This thread has become a battlefield of men acting like children.
