Here's how I skin windows in GIMP
- Open the .psd template in GIMP. The template should be without any logos/text on the windows themselves.
- Click Image>"Merge Visible Layers". Select "Clipped to Bottom Layer" and check "Discard invisible Layers"
- Now you should only have one layer.
- Right-click the layer and click "Add Layer Mask". In the window that pops up click "Channel" and select "Alpha 1"
- You should now see a checkerboard in the windows, showing that the transparency works.
- Right-click the layer and click "Apply Layer Mask" to merge the main layer and the layer mask.
- The template is now ready. You can add new layers now to put logos/texts on top of the windows. Use the slider bar for Opacity to change the layer transparency for the logos/texts.
- Job done
- Export as BC3/DXT5
