Should steering FFB reduce when braking?

The FFB resisting my steering drops a lot when I brake hard. It seems to kick in exactly when the wheels lock up, is that realistic, or are my FFB settings broken?
Yes, I'd call that realistic. (Have you ever locked up in a real car? It's a lot harder to do these days with ABS on most vehicles...)
To explain it without jargon, as I understand it, the force that tries to straighten out the steering comes from the grip of the tyres and the fact that they are rolling; as soon as you lock up, it drops dramatically.
