Significant FPS loss in VR compared to 4K

Hi everyone,
So I'm having a significant FPS drop in VR and I can't figure out why....
For example on one track using a single monitor I'm having around 115fps average in 4K (3840x2160), but in VR which is rendering in 2052x2004 per eye I'm getting 70fps average, in this case the pixel count is about the same. Since I'm new to VR is this a bug or normal behavior?
If it helps I'm running a i7 10700, RTX 3070 and a Reverb G2 headset.

But it's also rendering in half the resolution per eye, ending up with almost the same total pixel count, that's where my confusion comes from. Losing 40% of the performance on virtually the same resolution seems odd...
 
No SS, I really tried comparing apples to apples when it comes to resolution. Right now I’m getting the fps back with AMD FSR, but I still have the feeling it shouldn’t be like that
