Cars The Need For Speed

Looking superb!

Reminding me of my Scalextric set I had as a young child, since I NFS was before my time :roflmao:

Funny how they usually matched the Diablo to the F40 while the Ferrari is almost another class of car, faster and lighter.
And what the hell is going on with those front lights on the Diablo? now I'll have to re-do my model! :roflmao:

It's taken a while for me to comment... as I'm blown away by the beauty of your Diablo..

I think you should consider putting an 18+ certificate on your screenshots...
as they're almost pornographic! :D

I might be being greedy here... but I hope there is an SE30 Purple skin... As this is undoubtedly the best looking purple car ever!

You're not so much a 3D artist as a Sculptor of polygons... Amazing skills!

Thanks John, I really appreciate your comments! and we both agree that's the best color ever on a Diablo!
I'm not blaming you for not following the thread :whistling: but I've posted before that there'll be both an SE and SE30 versions as a separate release (as they won't be part of the NFS pack).

Best colour ever on a Diablo... Simple as! Best use of the colour purple in world history too! (probably)
lol TBH I wasn't really reading, my brain stopped working :D... I was mainly just looking at the screenshots.
This Diablo has got to be the best looking version featured in a racing title that I've ever seen!
Keep up the awesomeness! This is going to be a bedroom wall poster mod :)

Possibly as both were nominally 200mph cars and took the top trumps approach. Out of interest how much faster is an F40, I would have thought NA might give Diablo a bit of help on some tracks

On my tests, the Diablo is about 1 second ahead of the 512, but the F40 is around 8 seconds faster than the Diablo. The F40 is a racecar in disguise.

Amazing details!
Only when i thought you were done, you weren't...
When i thought it looked amazing, it's looking even more... when will you stop :D

By the way, i heard nothing from him.
I'm trying sending one last message

then, if someone else wants to try his luck, i don't want to spam the guy :p

Follow up to my little quest...
No news from the guy.

So i investigated:
  1. With an engineer/developer friend of mine who looked into the code of the open source NFS (https://github.com/jeff-1amstudios/OpenNFS1). He said the .tri (available in the original game files here) contains the track, but not a mesh. It's a follow up of instruction to build the track. Like a spline along which the game loads objects etc. in order to save space. It's clever that's one thing, but it also means building an actual mesh (obj file) would take time, something like 10 rather than 1 hour... aaaand... i'm not sure he's got that time available :(
  2. Blender and plugins (3dsmax and plugins as well actually), to import ".tri" files, that's where the tracks are at. But no luck. The plugins were for Skyrim actually, thought i'd give it a try anyway. Import shows an error. (tried different importers, different versions of Blender... nothing worked:notworthy: )
Links to the plugins http://www.*********.com/skyrim/mods/14589/? and http://www.loverslab.com/topic/57684-blender-263-tri-file-importexport-plugins/
All in all, that's a failure so far :geek::coffee::roflmao:
But see, i put clever links of all i found, so actual talented people can look at it!

Back to the studio.

Thanks for the effort Ben, at least we know there's a way, it's a matter of finding someone with the knowledge to do it... if ever. I would give it a shot myself, but I don't know anything about track modding and got a lot of car things going on.
Still, it's good to have all the info in one place.

About being done, well, as far as the Diablo goes it's almost there, only needs some more polishing and it's good to go.
About the comments on my work, which I certainly appreciate, it's a constant learning experience. Each car is a new adventure for me, never gets repetitive and there's always room for improvement. Things can only get better, Howard Jones once said, and there goes my age again! :roflmao:

Besides, we know how amazing it is to see your creation come alive, even if it's a replica of something that already exists, that's enough motivation for me to keep going.

This is going to sound like an odd request, but hey, here goes.

Could you make just 1 model to actually look like the original? So it looked like AC but driving an NFS model around? Maybe use a LOD model or something? I dont know, it just tickles my fancy to see a 20+ year old model in the game.

Carry on :)

Yes my interior model is based on a 1995, the steering wheel was 3 spoke on '94, had to find some kind of middle ground between all the interior variants so I wouldn't have to make another model for the SE and SE30 versions as well. The whole interior design changed again in 1998 when Audi purchased the company.
