Cars The Need For Speed

With ac the only obstacle from having a mod not get finished is lack of time or loss of interest.

It is really not. It takes a lot of skill, know how to elevate it high enough so it could be considered finished. It is really not so easy and not just time and motivation especially when it comes to first mods. You have to understand whole architecture right from beginning, and you have to understand every single detail if you want steady workflow. Even though it is not a rocket science to get something into AC, but you need consistency if you want to do it right. Otherwise you'll get to do same job two, three...many times before you'll get it right, and it will suck big time if it is going to affect numerous other details. It is also not easier when you are fresh with modelling or whatever you do and you don't know the best ways and potentially do something very inefficiently.

How many mods there ended because modder didn't realize what it actually takes to make it well, and had unrealistic goals, and people developed stupid high needs for mod models. There were some mods of cars which took years only for basic exterior, something that is done in a week or less when experienced guy does it. And it is the "candy" part of modelling, then doing real work with fine details comes, interior and it's million details, having objects setup rationally, have rational set of materials, do good UV maps, bake AO, play it rationally with textures, make good shaders, cope with animations, make lods, check everything once again, make the car functional with .ini files, meanwhile have physics and sound developed which is whole different area, test car - double, triple check everything again, you might as well do some skins. And then you hope mod is good enough.

If the only obstacle was time and motivation, then doing it wouldn't be different from the most simple jobs you can imagine.

Pretty much this.
And of course, as years go by the requirements for quality goes up. 10 years ago you could get away with a lot less detail and lower polycounts.

It is pretty easy to learn 3d these days. I know because I started with scratch with ac. Time and motivation is really all it takes to build a 3d model. Time and motivation to learn how the sim works, how the 3d software works, how the different file types work, how shaders need to be set up, how uvmaps and texturing need to be setup, how sdk works... You don't need to be a professional 3d artist, texture painter, animator, race car engineer, sound specialist and know all about ac to get it done. You just need to have time and motivation to learn as much as you can and then team with others to make the parts you can not do. It is not easy but it can be fun. The only limits are your time and motivation. But not for just doing it by learning how to do it.

Somebody should remake the Jamiroquai video with all car shots substituted with AC footage (We have the Diablo, and F40 and LAC is perfect track for that) :whistling::thumbsup:
Always thought of that, now it's possible since we have night mode and all... we just need to find someone skilled enough to do it (I suck at making videos otherwise I'd give it a shot).

It would be simple life if time would just automatically solve things for us.

Your eyes will open up when you will struggle to get at least remotely close to results of modders from this very mod project which this thread is about.

But maybe we are lost in translation and your "finished mod" is not really so finished. Or maybe you are working on very very simple car, which is smart idea.

Give it to phoebes95. I lost count of how many times i've watched his videos. F***ing masterpieces.

You mean @Ph0b0s ? he made some cool videos with my cars. Worth mentioning here to see if he might be interested in doing a recreation of the original vid now that we have the cars, track and lighting.

Did I saw a F355?

Yeah but don't get your hopes up, it's just a cheap Forza port. Physics unknown and the model itself is way off, specially at the front and roof, though it's good enough to make the video.

I swear the one I have is the same as that one. Is that the one by Velos Mods?

Sorry for bumping this needlessly but I wanted to share something I found regarding the Viper.

In YouTube I follow a dude who owns plenty of cars, one of them being a Viper similar to the one A3DR made. He just got an interesting aftermarket package of roof and windows, which does look very different -and in my honest opinion, better, even without paint- than the roof contained in the AC mod. Here's the video:

What do you think? I'm aware the Viper is probably 100% finished by now, and it surely won't be easy to soruce blueprints for this thing, but I don't think sharing this will harm anyone. :)

Oh yeah, I've learned about that aftermarket option while I was doing the research and I didn't like it at all, it messes up the entire car proportions. Not only that, it was not a common option back then, so I've dropped it.

My heart-rate went up quite a bit seeing my favourite Ferrari in A3DR's post. Oh well. I know the port and it's not good enough. Unfortunately no sim has this car (well, PC2 has the racing version, but... you know).
