General Where to start?

I have no idea of modding but, even so, I would like to be able to edit a model from the game. Lets say, for instance, an object from the track. I know the name of the kn5 and its location. I even have a tool to extract the kn5, which has several obj 3D files inside, which can be viewed with the 3D Model viewer in Windows 10. Now, using a CAD program, I understand that I could edit those 3D models, right? How would I pack again the modified kn5? If the object is animated, how could I edit those animations? If it is not animated, how could I add animation to it? Thank you.

Adding an object is relatively easy, but changing an object would require CSP magic I'm not able to do.

And your typical engineering CAD program is of no use here, you need something that works with a poly mesh, most well known Blender (free) and 3DSMax (not free)
