Formula 1 is on track this weekend for the Austrian Grand Prix, just one week after an exciting British Grand Prix.

Last weekend's British Grand Prix was, by most accounts, the best race of the season so far, and among the most exciting in the past few years.

A dramatic start which resulted in a terrifying crash set the stage for a thrilling race which saw several lead changes and gave Ferrari's Carlos Sainz his first F1 victory. Throughout the race there were many exciting overtakes, Max Verstappen uncharacteristically struggling thanks to a damaged car, and Mick Schumacher battling hard to secure his first ever points in Formula 1.

And while F1 fans are still trying to catch their breath after that exciting race, the teams and drivers are already set to do battle once again, this time in Austria.

The Red Bull Ring will be the site of the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix, which will feature the Sprint format to determine the grid order for the race.

Ferrari and Red Bull will once again be doing battle at the front of the pack, in all likelihood. Sainz took the top podium step at Silverstone, with his teammate Charles Leclerc in fourth. Sergio Perez for Red Bull battled back after early damage put him back to last place, finishing second place. Verstappen's car also took damage, and the current championship leader was only able to manage seventh place in the end.

The top two spots of the drivers' standings are now both occupied by Red Bull drivers, with Verstappen sitting 34 points in front of Perez. 11 points separate the Ferrari drivers in third and fourth place of the standings, with George Russell of Mercedes completing the top five, despite his DNF in Great Britain.

In the constructors' championship, Red Bull holds an impressive 63-point lead over Ferrari, with Ferrari then holding a 61-point advantage over Mercedes.

Friday and Sunday sessions in Spielberg are looking wet, so there could be some interesting shake-ups in the running order throughout the weekend.

Do you think this race could bring the same level of drama we saw last weekend? Let us know in the comments below.

Impossible to stop "boos", as pathetic and immature as it is we don't want to turn into the PAP.

However, cheering crashes of any sort is frightfully lower class.

For my part they remove booing fans idiots with force from race tracks in the future. Shameful behaviour again which is slowly ruining this beautiful sport. Bah.

There's been booing at F1 races for as long as I've been watching, early to mid 1970's.And every time it happens people act shocked and pretend it's a modern thing.

As a general rule it's seen as fun unless its a driver or team you like.

I have visited and seen plenty of motorsport events in my life but not once have I sat on a grandstand with people who go out of their minds of joy when a competitor of their favorite driver crashes straight into a wall at high speeds. Not once since my first race in 1981.

Said it before but we are pretty close in F1 to see pure hooliganism between "fans" like we have seen in football. Put enough beer and a lack of brain cells together and there is an explosive mixture.

Leclerc and Sainz gave that race away...fighting each other...that win for Sainz did not help the team dynamic at all.

Carlos had a super start and a real chance to challenge Max.
Charles should have been smarter, and let Carlos have another go.
Max would have been vulnerable with Carlos attacking him some more.
Now Charles' aggressive move made both Ferrari's lose 2 seconds right away. Game over. His ego destroyed his own chances.

nice to say but I don't think Sainz can ever really challenge Lecler. Maybe he can taste last week's win? But Leclerk is less comfortable now, due to the mistakes of the Ferrari team itself.

Max had a nice show in his mirrors as the Ferraris made a mess of racecraft. Then he sailed off.

Can the Sprint experiment, F1.

that's what poor drivers management get you into
Im not even talking about team orders but in general

I really enjoyed the battle between Hamilton and Schumacher. Well-done to Mick for holding off a seven-time World Champion in a superior car for more than 10 laps.
And beated by team mate Russell.
Again. Will Mercedes be willing to pay all those millions next year?

It looks like Mick find his speed by the Haas team

Also curious about Ferrari's team orders tomorrow

..... will always be utterly stupid.

Concentrating on negatives instead of positives

It paints the entire crowd with one brush, ergo who is lower class ?
Every Max or Lewis fan ? Stupid to even consider this.

Oh dear, sorry if that melted your snowflake, but to reiterate - cheering crashes is for underclass yobs, the lot of them. Don't care who they support.
Didn't that just happen last year at Silverstone???people celebrate when someone actually do end up in the hospital..and last week Silverstone the Boo after the Qualy Max Verstappen.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.jpg

I don't approve, last year when I got excited about it I was laughed at.
You can wait for the Max fans to do the same. Zandvoort and Spa are also to come. It's gonna be fun. Sad situations this but I won't worry about it anymore.

Oh boy going off the rails again (edit: I mean the conversations above, not you)...so lets bring this back to the racing:

I don't think the sprint is necessarily a bad idea; that could have been an amazing race today if Max and Charles went at it unimpeded...but again the 2 Ferraris going at each other messed that up. Max is possibly the fastest guy on the grid in terms of raw single lap pace, plus this RB, once there's no mechanical issues, seems to be the fastest overall (not necessarily in top speed but overall it's the strongest car)...the LAST thing you do is give him clear air to run away on lap 1 and that's what they did.

What would be really interesting (but would NEVER happen for so many great reasons), is if the teams each had to build and maintain a separate spec car only for the sprints (and have more sprints per season)...I think the fights would be spectacular if the drivers didn't have to manage the risk of damaging the GP car vs. the reward of extra points. The danger of having to replace a gearbox/PU/etc. and suffering grid penalties must be in the back of their minds.

Plus the spec car should cost less if made with FIA spec components, but also help settle some of these arguments finally on who's really the fastest lol

Two seasons, back when LeC was teamed with Vettel, he showed no inclination to work with Seb and both of them ended up ruining races for each other. The ONLY way for Charles to keep Carlos in place is to get a freakin' decent start and hang with Max so that Carlos cannot DRS onto his wing. Several of the most recent races, Charles has had average starts at best. If that trend continues and Carlos pokes his nose inside, neither red rider will yield.

You will also have to manage your tires.. If Ferrari let Charles and Carlos fight it will cost their tires and they will not beat Verstappen under normal circumstances
