Assetto Corsa 2 launching Spring 2024

The much anticipated true and faithful follow-up to the first Assetto Corsa has had its release period surface online. We can expect an early 2024 release!

The original Assetto Corsa launched in late 2014, and it’s still going on strong today. It has become the darling of the online sim racing modding scene. It didn’t matter what kind of racing anyone wanted to do. If the player wanted vintage Grand Prix racing, modern day sports prototypes or even a massive dinosaur, AC could do it.

In 2018, its GT-racing focused cousin Assetto Corsa Competizione was released. Whilst a very solid sim, the lack of variety limited its appeal. The sim racing community has been waiting with baited breath for news of Assetto Corsa 2 and when it would be releasing. Now it seems we have an idea.

AC2 Spring 2024

In an image posted by video game industry analyst MauroNL on Twitter. It seemed to be a quarterly financial report gave us the information. It recounts the information on the first two instalments. Right at the bottom, it specifies Spring 2024 as the expected release date for the second version of Assetto Corsa.

Spring traditionally runs from 21 March to 21 June. This will mean just over nine years will have passed between the release of the first and second iterations of Assetto Corsa.

Best of Both Worlds

The original Assetto Corsa may still be the standard for a lot of online racing, but it is very much limited due to being an older game. With just four years between the original and ACC, the quality of the graphics improved exponentially.

But like has already been said, ACC is specifically GT-racing focussed and has less to process. It was developed on Unreal Engine 4 whilst we have seen how Unreal Engine 5 looks with a racing sim through Rennsport.

Here’s every bit of hope that AC2 – or whatever it may end up being called – can have the variety of AC but the refinement of ACC.

AC2 is unnecessary. Why should we buy it? AC2 won t be modable, cause car-manufacturer and track-owner wouldn t have a benefit. They all „hate“ AC+CSP+SOL. That tripple destroyed the holy bucks for all licensor atm.

thats great. plastic setup? i sure know more about simulator games than you but hey all ams2 players defend their game so nothing new. have fun with madness engine :)
You may very well know more about simulator games than me but not how to dial them in :-D

The only way to prevent losing license money from mods is for the manufacturers to give access to Kunos before the premiere of the car & then release it as DLC on the day of the premiere! :)
Quite easy! :) Then mods will be mostly for tuned-up versions of the cars or entirely fictional cars...

Anyways, if you try to screw the modding community, the community will screw you! I.e. Richard Burns Rally vs. all the shitty WRC games :)

For AC2 I only hope for a better online gaming experience, maybe even blatantly copying iRacing's system & then you'll destroy your biggest competitor. Instagram isn't afraid of copying Snapchat or TikTok, so... :)

I am sure that will be the case and hatred from die hard AC/CSP/SOL crowd will be no less than what ACC received on release, and still receives to date from some.

What's wrong with people making money off mods they made entirely themselves?
whats wrong is that you are making money with mods, thats the issue basically, it wasn't like that on the past, like people are even starting to pay a Patreon to even have access to a track, what kind of BS is that?

No permissions, no licenses, no overheads, no taxes.
Without studios they have nothing to sell.

So what do you call it when another modder rips another
modders work and releases it and they go off their heads ?

Because its ancient. AC by next year will be a decade old, when the GTX 980 was the cats as* and $550. They said its moddable with their new proprietary engine for AC2. AC is long, lonnng in the tooth.

I trust KUNOS to get it right. The only concern I have is VR performance. Most important for me is high quality VR. If it doesn't have that then I'll just stick with AC.
if it even has VR. I know, it's crazy to even think about, but this sort of unthinkable thing has happened before.

This game needs a ranking system like in iRacing or good AI. Otherwise there are plenty of other sim out there.

your nickname says it all. moderntimes = graphics 10 gameplay 4 :) :) :)
Actually my user name is a reference to the Charlie Chaplin movie "Modern Times", which depicted the struggles of the common man during the great depression. Since capitalism is slowly dying again and we are at the verge of another banking crisis, I would say this movie still hasn't lost it's relevance, even after almost 90 years.

Also my favourite game of all time is Planescape Torment. If you know that game it should tell you enough about my age and where my preferences lie :-p

i cant believe people really believe Kunos will not allow modding. They are a company but there's no reason to be so pessimistic as to believe they will be THAT dumb. They KNOW the only reason they still get revenue from the game each month from steam is because of the modding scene. Either they are literally so dumb that they deserve to go bankrupt if they go against modding, or people here have a kink with misery and being as pessimistic as possible.

all i want from Kunos is for them to host sponsored events like LM24 or Dayona24 with 3rd party mods....AC was far ahead of iracing and rf2 in term of the quality of mods

Half of the revenue is coming from console-players they confirmed once and ACC is a success without mods. Despite the age of AC, it will be the biggest competition for AC2 and FM8 might aim for sim-racers as well with their "eight-point-tyre-model". With 500+ cars to start no need for mods.

Mods for iRacing? Great.

There will never be official events with mods.
