Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel ending up with fastest time and an impressive 171 laps on the board as testing resumes in Barcelona today.
The Ferrari would run like clockwork all day today at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, as Seb Vettel ending running in much improved weather conditions fractionally ahead of Mercedes rival Valtteri Bottas, stopping the clocks with a 1:20.396 to edge out his Finnish rival by two tenths of a second.
It would be a less ideal start to the second and final pre season test for McLaren Renault, with Belgian driver Stoffel Vandoorne having a fraught morning of mechanical difficulties in his newly engine McLaren, going into the lunch break with just seven sporadic install laps to his name. The second part of the day would prove more useful to both driver and team with a much cleaner afternoon of running, however second last and just 38 laps to their name must mean slightly concerned staff tonight at the circuit, with much to do for the remainder of the session...
Ironically it would be another solid day for engine swap partner Toro Rosso, the new 2018 specification Honda Power Unit again proving reliable despite driver Pierre Gasly having to spend plenty of time in the team garage sorting a variety of issues. That said, the team with the most laps from the opening testing run last week still clocked 58 tours of the Barcelona circuit en route to fifth overall, a decent day in anyone's book...
Testing resumes tomorrow..
