absolutely amazing. Im not sure why you would ever need another racing game ever again after this. If we could just get some HD and lighting graphical updates, this game would stand the test of time.

I installed ultramod (steam version) but it takes 3 minutes from starting the app until anything appears on the screen (not Schumacher but the normal Simbin intro). Is that normal for a pc version loading from an SSD? On looking at task manager nothing seems to be happening by way of disk access or cpu/mem resources as if it is something timing out.

Yes, it's normal. It takes even more time loading from an HDD.
At first start R07 reads and checks every car and track mod and that takes a lot of time even on an SSD.
The next start of R07 is usually faster, though.
