Happens to me very often too, looks like its the windows update crap that does it in my case. Once I have bad stutters, I quit AC and look at the last update time and it always coincides. Most of the time it only checked for update but didnt actually download/install anything. When it downloads though, oh my god its completely unplayable.

A restart is often the only cure in my case...
